My name is Teddy. I'm a 5-6 year old schnauzer/yorkie mix who was surrendered from my prior home due to not doing well with kids. I had been in the home since I was a little puppy, but I was not okay with the young kids being interested in me and I did end up biting them as I wanted my space away from them. The family said I would lunge in my crate as well.

I am an independent boy who needs time to warm up to new situations, places, and people. I can be very scared at first. I prefer a quieter home as I don't want kids around, and I would do best in a place that doesn't have constant visitors coming and going. I need structure and consistency of training in my new home, with calm assertive pack leader humans who show me that it's okay to just be a dog, they've got things under control with leading the way.

I do well in my crate, and I haven't had any issues with lunging in my crate at my foster home. I am good with the other dogs at home, but I will absolutely protect food and high value things inside my crate from other dogs, so I need to be fed separately and I do just fine.

When I came to rescue, I hadn't been groomed in a long time and my hair was very long and matted. I had to be sedated for a full shave down, and I had skin infections on my belly and paws that have since healed. My prior family said I didn't do well with grooming, nail trims and vetting, but I need a family who is willing to go slow and steady with exposing me to touch and easing me into things. I may need trazodone or other sedation long term for grooming and my adopters have to be okay navigating through that.

Teddy needs an experienced consistent home. If you let your dog run the house and tell you what they want, Teddy is not the dog for you. If you coddle your dog, and humanize them and their behaviors, Teddy is not the dog for you.
Teddy needs a family who has some experience with training behaviors more than just basic obedience who is willing to work with him. We will be very selective on where he is placed to set him up for future success. Teddy will not will not be placed with children.

Please note, applications submitted will take at least a week to process, looking for the best fit home for Teddy.

Adoption fee is $600 + tax (no checks)

Email adopt@newleashrescue.org with any additional questions.

Teddy will be at our adoption event at the Lakeville PetSmart on Saturday from 11-2pm.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home.

Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
