Hi, my name is Tantor! I am named after the Elephant from the Disney movie Tarzan. The name really works for me because I have giant feet, like an elephant. I am a sweet, clumsy boy that loves attention, scratches, and a healthy dose of play time. I am currently staying with a foster family that has two cats. I am very interested in cats because I really want to play with them, although sometimes they do not want to play with me. Altogether, I would say I am good with cats, as long as the cats let me know when it doesn’t want to play. I also like to meet other dogs, and my foster family makes sure that I get to meet new friends (dogs and humans alike).
Some of my favorite activities include chewing on my bully stick, playing tug of war with my foster parents, playing with my squeaky toys, and exploring the back yard. I also like to go on walks, and my foster family says I am a great walker. One of my favorite things to do is play with egg cartons. I really like to rip them up. Someone just needs to watch that I don’t eat the cardboard.
I am working on my crate training skills, and currently, sleep in a separate room in my crate. I can sleep there all night long, but sometimes, I need to be let out for a bathroom break, but don’t worry, I will let you know. I am also learning to be on my own while my foster family is at work. Currently, I am left alone one day per week. When my foster family needs to go out and run errands, I get a little sad, and bark and whine when they leave, but I quickly calm down, and happily play with my toys until they return. I would say I can spend about 5 hours by myself comfortably. I do have some separation anxiety when people leave me, but I am actively working on getting over it.
I am doing very well at house training, and currently signal my foster family to go outside, by sitting by the backdoor and waiting for them to let me out. I have been accident free for a while now. I am great at sitting when I am told, but I am also working on laying down, going to my bed, and the crate command. I love food, so my foster family uses food to help me learn.
My foster family thinks that I would be a good fit for an active family that likes being outdoors and has access to a backyard and already has another dog, however, I would be okay by myself too. I am going to grow up to be a big strong boy, with lots of energy, and I promise that I will make a great addition to the family.
