Meet Taffy *ADOPTION PENDING*
Taffy is as sweet as her name! She is about 4 years old and weighs 37 pounds, She was living in a car, along with a cat, for many years because her owners were homeless. They could no longer care for her and surrendered her to us. Taffy is such a happy, friendly and sweet girl. Her tail is always wagging and she never met a stranger she didn't like!
The reason Taffy is listed as special needs is because she was diagnosed with a condition called megaesophagus. This is characterized by a lack of motility in her esophagus meaning the food does not move into the stomach, but rather sits in the esophagus and causes regurgitation. In addition to medication a solution is to have Taffy eat several small meals and to remain upright for 20 minutes after feeding. There is a chair made especially for this called a Bailey Chair. This allows gravity to assist in moving the food into her stomach. Many dogs adjust well to this condition and can lead happy normal lives.
