Meet Tabby

Tabby is a rescued dog from Taiwan. Please note that he is a part of our international rescue adoption program.

Name: Tabby

Breed: Formosan Mountain Dog mixed - our best guess

Gender: Neutered male

Age: About 10 months old (est. DOB: 9/1/2022)

Weight: Fully grown approximately 40 lbs.

Color: Brindle

About Tabby:

Tabby, and his short tail siblings were found by rescuer Chang in the mountain area in the middle of Taiwan. Compared to other naughty short tail pups, Tabby was the smallest one who is always the last one to get the food, or just curled at the corner. You might think maybe he was afraid of human or not interested in food. When we took him out from the area where his sibling stayed, he blew our mind immediately. He wagged his lovely short tail and sneaked into foster’s cuddle without any hesitation.

This difference made the foster thought that maybe Tabby would love to stay with human than other dogs. But Tabby fresh our mind really quick within his first week in forster’s home. He tried to get other adult dog’s attention with strong tenacity since day one, and he also get alone with the other rescued dog very well(Lucky, a 30-pound adult dog) .

Tabby is doing good with adults, no matter human or dog since he was still a tiny puppy. We found Tabby seems more prudent than the average puppy. We tried to take him to join puppy’s play several times, but he is not sure how to respond to energetic puppies and keeps stepping back. He would rather to chase along the big dog’s tail to have adventure or even willing to sneak into a stranger's arm to seek protection when he felt unsafe then join the puppy’s party.

Tabby is also a clever dog. He learned simple commands like “sit”, “shake hand”, and “wait” in his first month in foster's home. He is good at those dog puzzle toys, like KONG(Wobbler), food hidden pad. He is always able to master it when his roommate still doesn't understand what’s going on. He knows how to enjoy his life by himself. He love to flip the toy to the sky and jump to catch by himself, or pick his kibble out or hide in somewhere then use his nimble “hand”(forefoot) to reach or grab it back to have food hidden game by himself.

It sounds like Tabby is a naughty boy, but in contrast, he is a very stable dog owing to his crazy love to humans he has shown since his tiny puppy period . He is amazingly stable in getting shower, nail trimming and leashed or unleashed outside. When he got nail trimmed, all he need from us just let him licking your face. His love to human also can equip him with brave to cross or stay the place he is not sure with human’s guide.

Overall, Tabby is clever, a bit naughty, prudent but with enough brave when he stays with humans. We believe our lovely short tail boy can bring a lot of fun and joy to his forever family who is seeking a dog with above characteristics.

Tabby is: Clever, Naughty, Prudent, Tenacity and Brave. Friendly with dogs and humans

Tabby likes: All kinds of food, chewing toys, cat teaser, being touched and petted.

Tabby is: friendly with kids & dogs. He’s Curios about cat, but also nervous when getting close to them. He’s a bit afraid of strangers. but could get used to them after a certain time.

Tabby is Ok to stay alone in a totally new environment but will keep alert. Toys and food would be helpful for her to get relaxed.

Tabby’s bad habit: He sometimes plays with poop. (Ewww we know)

Tabby would like you to know: He’s uncomfortable with big movement and loud noise. He’s a bit shy when meeting the stranger first time.

Medical:

Tabby is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

He tested positive to Babesia Canis and Babesia Gibsoni on 2/24/2023 but tested negative on 5/20/2023.
