Meet Suzy

You may have heard of CITY DOG Suzy. She is a bit of a celebrity around the Cleveland area—she's been on the news multiple times, graced the cover of Cleveland Magazine and much more. You can check out all her shenanigans on her IG & FB profiles—Just look up CITY DOG Suzy.

She actually came into the kennel over 3 years ago. When she first arrived, Suzy had an infected mass which we sent her to the vet to have removed. Unfortunately, the biopsy revealed that Suzy had mammary cancer. She was only expected to live 3-6 months, so a CITY DOGS Volunteer took her home as a hospice foster. Flash forward 3+ years and now it is time to find Suzy her forever home! She is thriving, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon after beating cancer. She is healthy and active. After multiple vet checks, no recurrence or symptoms of her cancer have come back.

Suzy LOVES people of all ages. She has never met a person she didn't love and enjoys showering them with kisses. But she would need to be the only pet in the home, so no other dogs, cats or small animals for her. She knows sit & paw and takes treats nicely. She has energy to take on adventures but also does awesome in a home snuggling up on the couch with you. When at home she mostly enjoys looking out the window or sunning herself in the backyard. She is 100% housebroken & crate trained, but doesn't need to be crated if you prefer not to. In the right environment would also do great as a condo/apartment dog. She also loves going for car rides and feeling the wind through her ears--HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE EARS? They are her signature feature.

Suzy is on the petite side, just under 50lbs and is around 7-8 years old. If you would like to find out more about Suzy or are interested in meeting her, please complete the Meet & Greet form on www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog

Fee: $61 | Includes spay/neuter, shots, microchip, license, 30 days free pet insurance (when registered upon adoption)

The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be.
Our Adoption Process...
Here's a little about how things work:
All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. Some dogs with special needs may require a rescue to pull. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet or to inquire about a dog’s special needs, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us.

About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.
Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella and Canine Influenza vaccines, thought you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.
