Meet Stitch / Copper

“Gorgeous dog with a sweet personality” says his foster. Stitch, 2-3 yrs, 45 lbs cattle dog / pitbull terrier mix.
If you are looking for a hiking adventure 4 legged friend, a jogging buddy, walking partner, or even a couch potato, Stitch can be any of those things. He’s great in the car and enjoys new adventures walking at new parks or in the countryside.
“The only flaw we’ve found is he needs leash training, he pulls a bit, he’s a gem!” from the foster. This sweet young boy is housebroken. He is crate trained. He knows sit. Please refer to our FB page to see more pictures and videos of him playing with the 10 lbs dog the foster owns. He is so gentle with him. He just started playing with toys. This is a fun affectionate dog dog who will make a family happy. He likes to be close to his people, he likes everyone (doesn’t favor human mom or dad). He will lay his head on your lap, he will cuddle your dog!
****** **UPDATE** *********
While everything above is true, we’ve learned that Stitch really is our diamond in the rough, he will make a wonderful best friend for that special person who is patient and dedicated to socializing him. He will then shine like the gem he’ll become. What that means is he needs slow introductions to new people. He quickly gets attached to his people in fact after 30 minutes at a meet and greet he was following the husband around and being leash walked by him. He will need to be with someone who will get him out and about to expose him to many people, sights, & sounds of suburban living. . Everyone asks; what is their back story? Well, he was brought to rural W.V. by a young adult to his grandfather’s house and they surrendered him to the shelter saying that he was a stray they found near the house. After a few weeks in the shelter he was losing weight, he had no energy, and chronic diarrhea so the shelter called them and they admitted the grandson brought him here and we don’t want him. The shelter took him to the vet to find out he had interrception. A small area of his intestines went inside the other part, so he had surgery and was put on a prescription diet after. No one knows what he’s been through before, no one knows why that happened with his intestines. He lived at the shelter for almost a year. That is not good for their mental health. What we know is he had surgery, he is healed. For him, a low fat diet is best. We have been integrating a high quality food (Canine Cavier) into his prescription diet so he will start to gain weight as he currently looks very underweight. To set him up for success, having a dog already in the house could help him trust the humans that are there and any he meets. Because he is quick to startle, a home without kids under 15 yrs would be best. Most of all he needs obedience to build confidence and a lot of patience. We know there’s got yo be someone out there for him.
Please consider the shy one, it’ll be worth it to have his friendship in the end. We know he will continue to blossom.

**Adoption Process: We are a small group and don’t have a long process, please refer to our FB the 1st post is our new website, scrol down to Adoption/Foster, the pdf form will open.
