Speckles Pit Bull Terrier Mix Allegan, MI

Speckles was brought to the Allegan Shelter 12/26/23 as a transfer from another rescue. She was originally a lost dog and was beyond their scope of care for her medical needs. The medical team estimates she’s about 2 years old.

This poor itchy girl had quite a few things going on with her skin simultaneously… Our medical team thinks it all started with Canine Demodex, a type of mite that caused the loss of fur. Then, while her immune system was weakened, her hair follicles became infected with both bacterial AND fungal infections! Antibiotics, medicated baths, soothing balm, and more have helped Speckles heal and regrow her fur. She’s made such amazing progress on her healing journey and it’s so amazing to watch cute little tufts of fur grow in!

Despite her discomfort, Speckles is a sweet, happy dog who loves life and people. She loves soaking up the sun, snuggles, and trying to itch her scabs by rolling in the grass.

At this time, we think it would be best for Speckles to get the maximum love from her humans as the only pet, but she could potentially join a home with another dog in the future as she feels even better. Older children would be a good fit!
