Meet Sol

Sol translates to sun and once you meet him, you'll understand why he was given this name because he's a literal ray of sunshine! He's guaranteed to brighten your day with his goofy smile, big head, and full body wiggles.

Sol was found as a stray sitting on a stoop, and while he was initially nervous in our care, he has really blossomed and become both a staff and volunteer favorite! He's had good dog meets at the shelter and would love to meet you and your resident pup today.

Sol is eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet him at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Behavior notes --
Per volunteer on 4/20: Sol greeted me with a smile and a wagging tail at the front of his kennel today. It had been a few days since he got some exercise so we took a nice long walk before snuggling a bit in the big run. He's such a sweet dog. He leaned into me for pets while I scratched his butt for a good 10 minutes. He was content to just hang out and chill. He took treats so gently and showed me that he knows how to do a sit! He walks very nicely on his leash. An overall wonderful pup!

Per staff on 4/16: Sol got out for some fresh air today! In kennel he came right up to the door with a wiggly body, wagging tail, and soft eyes. He was excited to get out but easy to leash, and came right out. Sol walks BEAUTIFULLY on leash! For such a big boy, he barely pulls at all! He walked past people without any reactions when we entered the covered yard. There were some people waiting to meet another sick dog outside, and Sol was curious about them but not obsessed. Every now and then he would go up to the fence and watch them with a soft body and a slow wagging tail. Sol mostly wanted to stay near me in the yard, I think he'd become a velcro dog to his adopter. He just wants to be around you! When we first got in the yard I immediately crouched down and invited him over for pets and love. He came right up with soft eyes and curled up under me to receive some love. After a few minutes of pets I got up to walk further into the yard and he followed, got right in front me, sat on my foot, and rolled over for belly rubs. He wasn't done being pet yet! Sol is such a love! He wasn't super interested in any of the toys in the yard, but did run around with me and engaged in some play. He got tired quickly with how sick he is, so we stopped playing and focused on the love for the rest of our time. I noticed that he does a lot of lip licking, even when the rest of his body is soft, eyes soft, wagging tail. He just flicks his tongue out like a big lizard as he walks around sometimes. Sol took treats from me sooo gently. He uses his tongue and lips to get the treat instead of his teeth because he doesn't want to accidently get you. After a while Sol started going up to the gate and looking back at me expectantly. He was tired and ready to go back inside! He walked perfectly back, and even ignored a cat along the way! He may not have seen the cat or been aware that it was there, as it was half hiding behind something from him, but he was non reactive nonetheless. Sol returned to kennel without any issues and gave me some kisses through the bars when I said bye. He is the sweetest, biggest baby!

Per staff on 4/9: Sol did so well coming out of kennel for a dog meet today! He greeted me with a wiggly body, soft eyes, and a fast mid level wagging tail. He was excited to get out and stuck his nose in the crack but was easy to leash and came right out! He did well for his dog meet as well, very happy and bouncy. He wanted to get right into play, very "in your face" greetings. A very good boy!

Per staff on 4/8: Said hi to Sol in kennel today. He seems to be relaxing a bit! He was sitting by the door and watched me with semi soft eyes. He stood up with a mid level wagging tail and took some treats through the bar very gently. Hopefully he's starting to open up!
Also saw him out with a volunteer going for a walk! He had a mid level wagging tail and his body was a lot looser than he was yesterday when I had him out.
