Skipper - ADOPTION PENDING!!! Chihuahua & Dachshund Mix Arlington, VA

Meet Skipper. This sweet baby girl was relegated to the backyard by her owners to live as an outside dog. She was unspayed and had no prior vet care, so she was especially vulnerable. We discovered that Skipper was in heat when we rescued her, so we are very thankful a concerned neighbor took action, and we were able to get her out of that situation quickly and avoid the prospect of another unwanted litter of puppies.

Skipper has lived with both large and small dogs and loves being part of a pack. She is currently an only dog in a townhome community and is doing well, but while her foster mom has been working in playdates for her, it's not the same. Skipper is a very playful and happy dog, and she would do best with a dog buddy or two in her new home. She gets a little anxious being left alone in a new environment, and another dog would offer her companionship.

Skipper has adapted well to home life, and although she is housetrained and crate-trained, she is not a huge fan of the crate. She also has pretty good leash skills and loves going for walks, where she does well meeting new people and dogs. She's a young pup with a lot of energy and needs an active home committed to daily exercise, but she can also be a sweet, cuddly pup. She is food-motivated, takes treats gently, and shows her patience by waiting her turn for food at mealtime.

FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 3/29/24

Skipper is doing well and has settled in nicely. She is amazing with other dogs (esp. smaller ones) and just loves kids. For her small size, she has lots of puppy energy outside and we can walk/run for miles. Inside she can totally chill (if she's been exercised). I take her out 4 to 5 times a day for potty breaks and that avoids any accidents in the house.

I love her spirited walk full of curiosity and joy - it puts a smile on your face just watching her skip jauntily. She has incredibly soft fur that is so pettable. I love her friendliness towards people - beware she may jump on a lap - and her sweet disposition. She sleeps soundly through the night in a crate in my bedroom and is very trainable (treat-oriented). She loves her plush toys and will play fetch forever if you'll comply.

I just love her, and she'd be a keeper if I were looking. She deserves an active family who will include her in their adventures.
