Foster to adopt home needed!

Sissy is a sweet 6 year 12# Chihuahua blend that came to us from a home in KY after her senior owner passed away. She stayed with a nice lady who owns a small and toy breed dog boarding business the past few months until she was sure that Sissy was ready to move on to a new home.

This little cutie does take a little while to warm up to new people, but once she knows you, she will be a constant companion. Sissy is a calm girl that will do best if someone let her warm up to them on her terms and is not rushed to do so. She is a true terrier and will tell you if she is displeased with something that you do. She has playful streaks and likes to pull on your shirt sleeve to let you know she is feeling frisky. Although she may make some noise, she really means no harm and is just having a Sissy-style good time.

Sissy should be in an adult only home since she didn't do well in her original home with small children. Giving her a quiet home to relax in would be ideal and help this sweet girl to acclimate a lot easier. She is treat motivated so that will likely help, too:)

She does well with other like-sized dogs and uses a doggie door with ease. She will stay in an area with a baby gate although she likes to jump up and down a lot if confined (though she's never made it over the gate on her own). A fenced yard would be ideal for her until she gets more comfortable in her new home, but it is not a requirement.

With our foster to adopt program, it will be the perfect chance to get to know Sissy and have time for her to settle in prior to adopting.

Due to her current age, size and personality, foster to adopt requirements are:

-Living within 80 miles of Adams, NY so they can get their continued care at our vet until they are officially adopted.
-Having previous/current pets in annually at a local veterinary office and up to date on vaccines as well as spay/neutered.
-Due to her current size and disposition, we are looking for homes with children over 12 years old.
-Willing to have current dogs/family members come to a meet and greet to meet the pet and be sure an acceptable match.
-Having time available to care for, socialize and start training of a new pet.
-Preference will be given to homes with previous dog experience.
-Having a fenced yard is definitely a plus.

Fostering is free and vetting is provided by the rescue. She has been examined, vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and started on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. If choosing to adopt our small dog adoption fee is $400 due when being officially adopted.
