Meet Shep

Who is looking to adopt the most adorable goofball? We have the pooch for you...meet Shep! Shep holds a very special spot in our heart. We first crossed Shep as a puppy in deplorable conditions, surviving in a dog pen in the brutal AZ heat. In an attempt to help Shep his two siblings, his Mama (a beautiful brindle shar pei/ terrier mix) and his father (a sweet, handsome husky), we seeked out the owner to see how we could help better their living conditions. "You can take all the dogs except for those two" the owner said, pointing to Shep and papa Husky. It crushed us to leave baby Shep behind, knowing we could indeed offer him a much better life. Fast forward seven months later, volunteers noticed a pack of dogs living by a homeless encampment. It was not far from where we first crossed path with baby Shep. Could one of the dogs be baby Shep all grown up? Sure enough, our paths crossed again, and this time, we were not leaving Shep behind. Shep has made incredible strides since being in our care. He was initially very, very weary of people but always curious in a delightful, goofy way. If he were a person, Shep would be the one getting everyone else in trouble, daring you to be the first to try something fun. Shep is a young dog, just a year old. He is really goofy, probably not the smartest dog but he is so sweet, funny, goofy and very handsome. Shep actually enjoys learning and pleasing. Shep was bounced around quite a bit when we first got him in our care. We simply did not have a place for him to go. Since he has been in foster, he is thriving. He is kennel trained, loves car rides, loves walks, and loves to romp and play with other dogs. Shep will make a wonderful companion, a great family dog. He still needs time t trust people, but with every passing day, Shep is becoming more secure. Did we mention how goofy is he? how handsome? how much fun he is? Oh, and he loves to give a soft kiss here and there. We love Shep. Shep will continue to thrive in a home that has access to a yard, a fur pal to romp with and as many humans as possible. He is a happy goofball and will fill your home with joy. If you are interested in adopting Shep ($200 donation), please take a moment and fill out an application: Poverty’s Pets – Adoption Application. Once received, you will be contacted within 72 hours. Thank you.
