Meet Savitar

OH HAI! Are you this "light at the end of the tunnel" I keep hearing about? Are you my furever home? Are those adoption PAPERS you're signing? And do they say "Savitar" on them? That's MY name! (scrunches eyes tight) Please don't let this be a dream...please don't let this be a dream...

UPDATE 1/10/19 Savatar has made great progress during his time at our rescue. He gets along with the dogs at his foster home and does fine with them however if he doesn't know a dog he is very confrontational and aggressive. For this reason we think he should be an only dog unless he is adopted with Simi who came to us with him and they were surrendered at the kill shelter together. Savatar does great with the kids in his foster home ages 12-15 yrs but unless constantly supervised we feel he needs to be in a home without kids.

Savatar takes a long time to build trust. The abuse he suffered was terrible and he needs a home that will understand, be firm and not afraid to help him adjust.

UPDATE:9/25/18 Savitar is making great strides in his touch therapy. Savitar can now be pet just about anywhere as long as he isn't startled. Savitar is learning to get along with the other members of the pack at the rescue but he still tries to challenge the dominant male. We still recommend only females or he be an only dog. Savitar has gain about 15 lbs since we first pulled him from the kill shelter and is no longer gobbling his food down. He is starting to understand that not all humans are bad and there is more food coming. We recommend an experienced rottie person.

Savitar was pulled from a kill shelter where he was owner surrendered severely emaciated and showing signs of being abused. Savitar was surrendered with his mate Simi who we also have.

Savitar has a few issues we are currently working on. He does not like to be touch on both sides of his head/muzzle. He flinches away from unexpected touch but on the other hand he is very affectionate and can often be found trying to crawl in the lap and lay his head on the shoulder of one of the founders. However, the sensitivity to touch in certain locations we do not recommend young children.

Savitar is fine with all of the dogs in our pack except our pack leader. Savitar tries to challenge him for dominance. For this reason we suggest he be the only male dog.

Savitar is really a sweet dog given the chance and just needs to right understanding owner to help him learn to trust people again. Savitar enjoys his daily runs with one of the founders sons (14yrs old) and can often be found visiting with the bull we have at our rescue.

Savitar is crate trained, potty trained, working on basic obedience and leash manners and experiencing touch therapy to help him learn that not all touch is bad.
