Hercules Boxer Stanwood, WA

This handsome, brindle boy is Santiago! He's 1.5 years old, has a natural tail, is current on his vaccines, weighs in at 52 pounds, and is being fostered in Vancouver, WA.

Due to no fault of his own, Santiago (formerly Hercules) was returned to the rescue when his adoption didn't work out because he and the family's other dog did not get along. Since his arrival back with us, he's been spending his time with one of our trainers while she evaluated him for safety with others and also while she has tried to get him healthy and ready for adoption.

Santiago has some gut issues which we are working on by way of prescription dog food and the addition of psyllium husk which has helped a lot. He's currently eating half regular food and half prescription and seems to be doing okay but is still quite thin. Ideally, we'd like to see him put on a few more pounds.

Santiago will need to be the only dog in his forever home and that home will also need to be one without cats. He displays some resource guarding behavior and can randomly attack other animals if he feels his resources (i.e., food) are threatened. It's possible that this behavior stems from him not feeling well, but we are confident that he will never be safe living with other dogs. Also, because of this kind of behavior, he won't be able to live with small/young children. He loves people though and has never shown any aggression at all to a person, but sometimes dogs don't see young children as "people", and we just can't take that risk.

Santiago is house broken, and crate trained. He loves to go for car rides and would make an excellent co-pilot for someone who enjoys road trips. Santiago also does fairly well while walking on leash.

This boy is so sweet to humans and is one of the snuggliest Boxers ever! His favorite place to be is curled up on a lap or right next to his person.
