Meet Ryder

Ryder is a 9 month old male GSD who was surrendered by his owner to a shelter. He arrived at his foster home on Jan. 11th. Ryder is a growing boy who weighed 70 pounds in December.

Ryder is a very social dog who likes all people and all dogs.

He is living at a foster home with a 3 year old female GSD and some kitty cats. His foster mom says that Ryder is an affectionate and loving dog. He is a high energy dog who wants to play play play! He meets new dogs and new people with a friendly wag of his tail.

Ryder has a rough & tumble play style. He does well with his foster sister and wears her out. He is very interested in the cats and wants to chase. He backs off when they stand their ground.

Ryder is crate trained and is learning some basic commands (sit, come & shake). In the home he meets visitors with curiosity. His leash skills are improving. He rides well in a car.

Ryder’s foster home is providing him with experiences and structure that were missing during his early life. He is house trained and crate trained. They are working on jumping and teaching him not to be mouthy. Like all puppies he will chew inappropriate items.

Ryder would do best in a GSD or working-dog experienced home that has a resident dog with a similar play style. He can also go to an experienced home without a dog as long as he has plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

His new people will need to set clear boundaries for this impressionable young dog. He will need exposure to the world outside the home. Structured training is a must so he can grow into a model citizen.

We feel that Ryder is cat-workable with the right cat and a home who will take the time to continue kitty training.

Ryder has not been tested with children. Due to jumping & mouthing and general lack of training he would not be suitable for a home with young children.
