Rupert Schnauzer Littleton, CO

Rupert is a senior Mini Schnauzer who was found running as a stray out of state, and he landed in the shelter there. He behaves as if he had a home for some period in his life, but he had no microchip to help get him safely back to his people. He enjoys treats and attention, he is comfortable in a crate, seems to be housetrained, and likes people. We don’t know anything about his background or how this good looking Mini lost his home, but we think he was running loose for some time as he was very badly matted when he was picked up by the shelter. Perhaps he slipped out of his yard looking for adventure, but at this time in his life he needs people to take care of him.

When he came into the shelter, his examination indicated that he had severe dental disease, a heart murmur, and some clouding in his eyes usually indicating advancing age. The shelter vet thought that Rupert is about 12 years old. We have taken care of his dental needs while he’s been in rescue. Our vet determined that no medication is needed for his heart murmur and he seems to see well enough to run around just fine on his own. He enjoys wandering around the fenced-in area in his foster Mom’s backyard and checking out all the new smells.

Rupert is neutered, he is up to date on his vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and he is microchipped now.
