Rudy Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Mix Bellingham, WA

Rudy is an energetic young dog looking for an active person who will take him on lots of adventures. If you're an avid hiker, runner, mountain biker, etc. this sweet boy might be the dog for you! Rudy is a herding breed mix - this means he is a working dog bred to herd livestock. Working dogs are known to be extremely intelligent and energetic and Rudy is no exception. They need more exercise and mental stimulation than other breeds. Herding breed experience would be a plus if you're interested in adopting Rudy, but it is not required. However, potential adopters should at least be able to demonstrate knowledge of herding breed behavior. Rudy is friendly, but he has been a bit anxious while here at the shelter. He may need a bit of an adjustment period in his new home, and even then he may just always be a bit of an anxious dog. We think he'd do best in a home where someone is present often and able to be consistent with his positive reinforcement training. He's super smart and should take to training pretty quickly! Hi, my name is Rudy! I’m a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: ENERGETIC!!! playful, friendly, a bit anxious but enjoys being around his people
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history with children, but may be able to live with dog-savvy kids ages 8+ (up to counselor's discretion)
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - will need proper introductions to ensure everyone gets along. NOTE - I am a herding breed and may have a prey drive.
-Can Live with Dogs: May be able to live with the right match - introductions will be done here at WHS. May do better with females than males. I am HIGH ENERGY and may be overwhelming to some dogs.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks, I am a high energy guy who needs space to run and play. I would do best in a home with a fenced yard.
-Potty Trained: Appears so
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: May be required to attend one private lesson depending on adopter experience
-Energy Level: HIGH!!!
