Meet Roscoe

ROSCOE

Roscoe is a sweet, 8 year-old, 67 lb male Terrier mix who was saved from an overcrowded shelter by our rescue partners in Florida.

Here is what our dog caretaker, Rebecca says about Roscoe:

"Roscoe is a 8-year-old Terrier mix, who is very happy and enthusiastic.

He loves to snuggle on the couch, run in the yard, and talk to the other dogs. He helps with chores by leaning against your legs and, as a Florida dog, helps shovel the white stuff by leaping into the shovel and biting the snow.

Roscoe is looking for someone who has the energy to play outside with him and then chill out on the couch."

Roscoe's originating rescue in Florida :shared the following story:

"Roscoe and his canine sibling loved their owner and their owner loved them. The owner fell on hard times, became homeless and had to live in his car with his beloved dogs here in Broward County, Florida. He tried his best to keep them safe but a tragedy happened.

The fire department was called because both dogs were unresponsive in the car due to the sweltering heat. Tragically, one of the dogs died of heatstroke at the scene. Roscoe was immediately taken to the vet hospital by the fire department where the staff worked to save his life. It was a hard-fought battle and thankfully, The homeless gentleman realized he couldn’t give him the care he needs and so he released Roscoe to the hospital.

Roscoe is neutered, has had all his vaccinations. Roscoe is alone now without his sibling and his dad and needs a family to love him and keep him safe.”

>> Dogs: Roscoe lived with another dog in his previous life and may enjoy a canine companion in his new home. Please bring any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet as part of the adoption process.

>> Cats: We have no information on how Roscoe reacts to cats. As a result, a cat free home, or one that can initially **separate** cat from dog to do slow on-leash introductions, is required.

>> Children: Due to lack of known history, we have no information on how Roscoe gets along with children. Please bring all resident family members to the shelter to meet Roscoe.

Roscoe is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He tested negative for Heartworm and is on monthly prevention. Please consider opening your home and heart to Roscoe!

*** IMPORTANT!***

IMPORTANT As a “southern” dog and due to the high rate of heartworm infection in the warmer climates, it is critical that Roscoe be kept on monthly heartworm prevention ALL YEAR LONG not just in the summer months. It takes 6 months for heartworm larva to turn into adult worms that then are visible on a heartworm test.

Monthly prevention will kill any larva. Adoptive parents must commit to this prevention schedule as well as heartworm testing every 6 months for the first year and annually after that.

Heartworm prevention costs about $120 a year. Compare that to treating a dog for heartworm (a deadly disease) an expense of thousands of dollars for a treatment that is dangerous and difficult for the dog.
