Meet Rory

Rory is a young male German Shepherd who was dumped with another dog in a rural area. The dogs were on their own long enough that they became wary of people and lost significant weight. Fortunately they were rescued by a good Samaritan.

We brought the dogs to our trainer where they were allowed time to decompress. As Rory gained confidence we decided he was ready to move to a foster home. Prior to his move several volunteers took him on outings to a park with other dogs. Over that time we learned he adores being with another dog.

Rory arrived with his foster family on Feb. 22. These are early observations and we will update as we learn more.

Rory has some puppy-like behaviors. We estimate he is about 1.5 years old. He is a good sized dog who weighs 75 pounds. He is living with 4 GSDs (3 male and 1 female) and 2 indoor cats. He met all the dogs easily and very much wants to be a friend with them. His interactions with the cats have been respectful. We believe he can live with a dog savvy cat.

Rory loads easily into the back of a truck. He has done fine riding crated during the trips to the park and to his foster home. He slept free throughout his first night without any issues. It appears he is house trained.

Rory does not know any commands. We will be working him on leash training and basic obedience. We started working Rory in a crate and he has been fine with that.

With time we expect to see a lot of positive changes in Rory’s confidence. At present Rory is best described as a skittish or wary dog. Once he gains trust in a person he is very loving dog.

An ideal home for Rory will be with experienced owners who have the time to get him out in the world. He will need to work on socialization and meeting new people. A home with a compatible dog friend would be ideal as he gains confidence by being around another dog.

Rory will need a quiet home to start and as such we are not recommending he go to a busy home or one with small children.
