Introducing River, our adorable and lovable dog looking for a forever home. River was found as a stray and picked up by Multnomah County Animal Services in Portland, Oregon. River was transferred to BAPBR and is currently in foster care with us, and up for adoption!
River is almost 2 years old, 13-pound Terrier - Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love to give.
He is best suited in an active home where he can go for walks and car rides.
We have never seen him around kids but if his new family has kids, they must be old enough to thoroughly understand dog language and when to respect a dogs space.
River is a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs, and he absolutely adores playing with them. Toys, chase, and games of tug of war are among his favorite pastimes.
Although River may have a natural inclination to chase chickens, he has shown no aggression towards them, making him potentially compatible with a dog-savvy cat.
River is a fantastic travel companion and thoroughly enjoys car rides! Leave the car door open for groceries and can’t find River? He’s in the car!
When it comes to bedtime, River is a cuddler. He loves nothing more than sleeping under the covers with you.
River's ideal home would be a patient environment with low foot traffic but active days.
He does have some shy tendencies towards new house guests. He would thrive with someone who works from home, or is retired and has another dog for him to bond and play with, as long as he got daily walks and exercise. A fenced yard is preferred. It's important for him to be in a home where there is someone present most of the day, as he craves attention and stimulation. He does do very well in a kennel, if needed. Regular play sessions, walks, positive dog training (force-free methods) and other enrichment activities would contribute to River's happiness and overall well-being.
