Meet Reese

Hello Santa Cruz/Bay Area! Meet Reese, an approximately 2 year-old affectionate and sweet male Border Collie. Reese is vaccinated, altered and healthy. He is about 35 lbs and has a medium coat. Reese is a fun, loving and brilliant border collie. Reese loves his people and anyone that will take the time to say hi to him. He is a very outgoing dog who can't get enough attention from his peers and is just the sweetest guy. You can take Reese with you anywhere and can rely on him to be polite to all humans he meets.

Reese would love an active home where his people are around more often than not. If you have a 9-5 job, this is not the dog for you. Reese is a border collie and therefore is needy and demands to be priority in his new home. Reese loves to hike, run and engage with his owners. He has also been proven to be very talented with sheep who have lots of style- he truly lives to work!

Reese has proven to be brilliant and very keen on sheep who have lots of style. He came from a cattle ranch but proved he is more a sheepdog rather than a working cattle dog. His foster really wanted to keep him, but already has three dogs. He lives to work! He would make a fantastic partner with someone who wants to pursue stock dog training as he shows biddability. It’s not a deal breaker—but a bonus if you are looking for a ranch dog. He would also enjoy Rally or Agility! He is high energy but also has a nice off switch. He really wants to please and be with his people.

Reese’s indoor manners are coming along. He has some training but really needs to work on some basic obedience and impulse control. He crates up like a gentleman and is house trained when he has access to a doggy door. Once he bonds to you, he is very "sticky" or stays close to his owner. He seems to much prefer female dogs to male dogs. He does great with his foster brother but at first would fixate on him. Reese has overcome this but we think it would be best for him to be a single dog or with another female dog in the house. He is unknown with cats and fowl.

Reese rides in a crate well in the car and will load up with ease but will heavily salivate but not throw up in car rides. He recovers very quickly. This is something to consider if you plan to drive with him frequently.

REESE NEEDS:

Breed experienced person who is patient yet driven to invest into Reese is preferred, or someone who has heavily researched BCs; A home where he isn’t left alone a lot; A handler that is active: just walking is just not enough for this boy; A home with a secure fenced yard—he is not suitable for apartment living. An owner who perhaps lives in a somewhat rural environment. Bonus is you have another dog who can show him the ropes. He lives with 3 other dogs and does well but would do best with a female dog.

We hope you are as in love with Reese as we are. We really wish we could keep this sweet boy. If you are interested in Reese. Please reach out.
