Meet Red, a beautiful standard poodle. She is about 2 years old, house and kennel trained. She is good with dogs, cats and kids.
Red absolutely loves walks around her neighborhood and exploring her backyard.
She loves to steal and chew your socks, hats, mittens.. so you do have to “puppy” proof a bit with her.
She is a happy friendly dog once she trust you and feels secure. She will need an adopter that is willing to work with her and give her the time to become the best dog.
Red does need time to get comfortable in new environments. It will probably take her a few weeks to be secure in a new home. She is not able to handle large crowds and busy public places at this time. She will not be able to go to the pet store and pick out toys with you, but she would love to go to a park and take a long walk.
She is an active girl and needs a decent amount of daily exercise. Just letting her out in the backyard won’t be enough, she needs to be able to get all the benefits a walk provides (not just exercise, but the sights, smells, sounds and social aspects too).
Once Red knows you, she wants all the attention, so if you have existing dogs, the best fit would be a more laid back one. She is not aggressive by any means, but will insert her body between you and the other dogs. Some dogs might take offense to that.
Red was severely underfed before coming into rescue and is still underweight. She has a sensitive stomach and ANY change in her food, will result in diarrhea. This includes her dry kibble and treats- you must stick with what she is being fed, for now at least.
Red is going to be an awesome dog, but she will need time to become secure with her people. She will also need basic training, like sit, down, stay. She is not an adopt and go dog, she requires an adopter that is willing to give her time and work with her. We are looking for a home for her in the Rochester NY area with a fenced in yard for her to play in safely (physical only). Red is scheduled to be spayed in April (delayed due to weight issues) but she can go to her new home sooner under a foster to adopt contract. If interested, please fill out an adoption application.

All our dogs have been spayed/neutered; treated for worms; heartworm tested (if age appropriate); treated for fleas/ticks; microchip; and examined by veterinarian and given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed.

Adoption fees:
Puppy to 1 yr of age: $275 to $400
1 yr to 6 yrs of age: $250 -$350
6 yrs to 8 yrs of age: $200 -250
Over 9 yrs of age: Adoption fee varies
*NOTE* Purebreds and Designer breeds, regardless of age are $325 to $400
