Meet Rainy - a sweet, shy 20lb Miniature Australian Shepherd. Rainy can be timid around new people, and needs time to build trust. Once she is comfortable around you, she wags her nub tail enthusiastically and approaches for treats and affection. Rainy went to a temporary foster home where we learned that she thrives in a home environment. Her fosters described her as extremely intelligent, curious, and independent. She picked up on potty training quickly and enjoyed people watching from the backyard. She even appeared to be watching television with her foster parents!



Rainy is leash trained and enjoys going on walks with people she is comfortable with. However, she will still need a 5ft secure fence to keep her safe and secure. We think Rainy would prefer to live with another dog to help her feel more comfortable, but it is not required. She could live with older children who will respect her space.

Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
