Meet Prudence

Meet Prudence! Pru is a 3 year old cattle dog mix who weighs 57# and who was a stray so there is no back story or history.

Things we do know: She is a lover, loves to give kisses, snuggle, and wants to be your friend! She has a few lbs to lose and is getting 2 cups of food a day right now. Hopefully, the routine and regular exercise will assist with this weight loss (but it may need to continue in her forever home). She must have some potty training since she has had no accidents in the house, however, she wants to be outside all of the TIME! She doesn't seem to have any sense of a schedule. We are working to help her learn being inside can be fun too. There has been no digging or attempting to get out of the fence. We don't know much about walking and leash skills yet and will update this when we can. She does know basic commands and responds to them well. More complex commands like roll over are met with a toothy grin. She does well with dogs, and reportedly does well with cats too. She is reported to get 'mouthy' with chickens, not to kill them, but I am not sure she recognizes her strength. Pru has shown no aggression at all but I think she would do well in a house with school age children. She does jump on people at her first meeting. We are working on correcting this behavior, but it will likely continue with her forever family. She also is not a big fan of the crate, and we are teaching her that now too!

Adoption Fee: $350.00 (no checks)

Foster to Contact: Bethany at 651-334-1327 or bethany.bertsch@gmail.com.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home & truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption; discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, & 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.

Last Hope, Inc. is an all volunteer, foster based, no kill rescue! You can see almost all of our dogs on Saturdays from 10am - 1pm at Lakeville PetSmart (located by Hy-Vee just off 160th & Pilot Knob).

Policies: You do not have to have a fence to adopt a dog from us, but some dogs will require a fence or acres to play, or an active family who will make sure the dog gets the exercise it needs to be happy. Some dogs do not have the temperament that will do well with young children.

The Adoption Fee is not enough to cover the vet bills. Sales tax of almost 7.25% is also included in the adoption fee that you see. Please consider donating to Last Hope to help us save these animals!

CAN YOU FOSTER? By taking a dog or puppies temporarily into your home and then coming to our adoption days to help find them homes, we can save more! If you’re interested, please email our office @ mail@last-hope.org and give us your contact information and what you would like to foster and someone will get back to you! You can also apply to be a foster home on our webpage! In the upper left hand corner there’s a drop down tab with the link for canine foster home. Just fill it out online & submit! We will get back to you as quick as we can.
