Nona Spaniel & Beagle Mix Chicago, IL

My name is Nona. I’m a 36-pound female Spaniel/Beagle mix just up from Alabama. I didn't have a great start in life but I don't want to dwell on that; I am moving forward and am told that a forever family is out there looking for a dog just like me.

I’m a smart girl and I know the rules: I'm housebroken, I don't chew on anything I shouldn’t, I’m not crazy about my crate but will settle down after a few minutes, and I only go on furniture if I’m invited. If you want to teach me something, just arm yourself with some cheese and you’ll see what a fast learner I am. In fact, I mastered stairs in less than 24 hours. I aim to please — always.

My foster mom says I am “cuddly, submissive, lovable, and sweet.” I would add one thing: I am afraid of unfamiliar dogs. They scare me, so I bark and growl and get a little protective. I need a home where I can be the only dog or one with very slow, patient introductions. 

In a few weeks, I’ll be celebrating my first birthday. Sure hope to do that in my forever home! Come meet me on Saturday? Nona’s the name, sweetness is the game.
