Navi Australian Shepherd Elk River, MN

Here comes Navi! Navi is a 4 year old, spayed female, standard black tricolor aussie who weighs in around 40 pounds. She comes from a home where she's been loved since she was a puppy and they are unable to care for her any longer. The owners reported that she is a happy sweetheart who is always excited to see you, and is super agile and playful but can also read the room and relax when you do. She grew up with another dog and a cat in the home, but she gets very jealous when they receive any affection and will shove her way in for the attention to be on her. She has a hard time adjusting to new dogs, and will sometimes bark or growl if she sees one out on a walk or near her fenced in yard. 

Navi does best with a front-clip harness for walks. She has a beautiful double-coat that is super silky, so it does require some maintenance especially by her ears and hind end. She gets a bit nervous when grooming, but will lay down and stay in place nicely while you groom her. 

Navi does well with older children but she has been known to be unsettled around other children aged 6 and under, so only older children would be best for her sake. Her family tried crate training her for the first year and were unsuccessful, but she does well in an enclosed room or loose in the house - just note that she will chew on small toys or figurines if they're left around. Because of this, we recommend lots of plush and chew toys to keep her busy. She likes to grab a plush toy when you come into the house and she will greet you with a happy, husky growl and very waggy tail! 

She will chase rabbits or squirrels in your yard, so a fenced yard is required. Her favorite toy is a soft frisbee to catch, which she does on a near-professional level. Navi would love to live in a home with people who have time to play with her, as she has a lot of energy in typical Aussie fashion, but she is also the biggest cuddle bug and will come snuggle up to you on the couch in a heartbeat. She would be happiest in a family with eyes just for her!
