Meet MURPHY-ILLINOIS

*INQUIRIES SENT THROUGH PETFINDER WILL NOT BE ANSWERED AS WE DO NOT HAVE THE MANPOWER TO RESPOND TO THEM. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION INSTEAD*

Meet Marvelous Murphy-Illinois, a 2 month old male Labradoodle puppy, who is an IDOG foster home in Kirkland, Illinois near Chicago.

*Please read ALL the information in Murphy’s listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application(copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 3 months & would like for your application to be considered for Murphy, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all of the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of his adoption at www.doodles.petfinder.com or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 2 months old (born December 9, 2023)

*WEIGHT: 16 lbs. (we expect he will be a large Doodle in the 50-70 lb. range as an adult)

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and a yard are required. She requires daily exercise & enjoys playing with other dogs. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set him up for success.

*COAT TYPE: soft scruffy flat coat that will likely shed. He is still a young puppy and his coat may change but we think he will have a shedding coat once his adult coat comes in. Adopter should be prepared to have him groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $100/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Murphy has very typical puppy energy! He puppy bites and jumps when playing. He will play hard, then crash for a nap. He will repeat his process throughout the day!

*DOGS: Murphy has been doing great with his foster family's dogs. He wants to puppy play with them and does not take their cues when they don’t want to play. He has been with his littermate (Opal-IL who is also available for adoption) since birth and they play a lot and play rough. We think he would do great in a home with another young playful dog, as long as that dog is tolerant of his puppy play and will be patient with him. We will not place a puppy in a home with an older dog who would likely be annoyed by his puppiness. Due to the intense, playful nature of puppies, he would be best placed with dogs with a similar desire to interact and play.

*CATS: unknown.

*KIDS: 6+. Unknown, Murphy has not been exposed to children in his foster home. Due to his puppy energy; biting and jumping with his razor sharp nails, we think he would do best in a home with children over 6 who can tolerate his teeth/nails and help hm learn how to play with kids.

*CAR: Murphy has only been transported in the car in a crate. He did well; he settled in the crate and was quiet until arrival.

*CRATE: Murphy does well in the crate. He usually has to be picked up and put in the crate, but once he is in there he will settle fairly quickly. He has not had any accidents in the crate. He has been sleeping with his doggy sister, so we expect he will have a harder time in the crate without her once he transitions to his new home.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Murphy will go potty outside whenever he is brought out. But he still has not quite gotten the hang of potty training. He still has accidents in the house. He had been litter box trained by his former owner and will go in the litter box if he is contained in a room with it. His new family should expect to spend several weeks potty training Murphy.

*LEASH: Murphy is a typical puppy. He walks as well on a leash as you would expect a 2 month old puppy to. He pulls, jumps, and wanders. He will need leash training.

Marvelous Murphy was surrendered to IDOG from a breeder who was unable to sell him and his sister, Opal-Illinois who is also listed for adoption through IDOG Rescue.

Here is what Murphy’s foster family has to say about him:

Murphy is a super sweet snuggly puppy. He likes to play and will entertain himself with toys for a short period. Then he wants to play with the humans. He has super sharp teeth and nails and will puppy play bite when playing. When he jumps up on people his nails are very sharp. Murphy likes to snuggle and will gladly be picked up. He will lay his head down on your shoulder and is perfectly content being held. He gets bullied a little by his sister (littermate) and he usually gives in and lets her take his toys.
Murphy has not been afraid of anything! He was not bothered by the vacuum, and was not afraid to climb the gate when he was contained in a different room than his foster parents. He was very proud of himself when he climbed right over the gate and bounced into the room to see them. He is a very silly, fun, sweet, energetic guy!!

Due to the intense needs of puppies, we will require adopters to be experienced dog owners with someone home during the day, so he is provided with human interaction while continuing to work on training. We are looking for adopters who understand the training, exercise & socialization needs of puppies.

He has seen our vet and received dewormer, heartworm/flea tick preventives, and is current on DAPP and Bordetella. He will need his DAPP booster soon and his Rabies vaccine around 4 months of age. He is microchipped. He is too young to be neutered so IDOG will hold a $200 neuter deposit. The adopter will be required under contract to neuter him by 9 months of age. You will need to send the vet receipt to IDOG and we will then refund the deposit. If you fail to get him neutered by 9 months of age per the adoption contract terms, you will be required to return him back to IDOG Rescue.

ADOPTION FEE: $400 adoption fee + $200 refundable neuter deposit to be refunded upon proof of neutering by 9 months of age

ADOPTION FEES:
Under 6 months: $650 and up
6 months - 2 years: $450 and up
2 years - 4 years: $350 and up
4 years+: $250 and up
Special Needs fee/donation assessed on individual basis
Puppies have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses.
