This spunky Miniature Poodle is Mojo! He’s seven years old and full of life. Mojo has curly white hair and a nice long tail that curls as well. He’s about 6 kg and is a playful and affectionate guy.
Mojo has been rescued from a life of being used for breeding and is embracing all the wonderful changes he’s been introduced to in quite a vivacious manner! He is curious about everything and wants to investigate every smell and eagerly wants to see other animals on walks. He’s pretty easy going with his food and will take and eat any treat that he is offered.
In his home, he is friendly and outgoing towards every person and will follow each of us around, always ready to play or seek out a belly rub. He’s been quick to bond to his humans and will only take moments to find a person to follow if he’s left in a room on his own.
Mojo loves to play, and so far, he’s played with every dog toy we have. He will come in from a walk, not tired, but full of energy and will get the zoomies while chasing around his toys. Mojo will toss around and chew a soft toy, chase a ball, or let us throw a toy for him to retrieve. Sometimes he brings the toy back to be thrown again and other times he just has to keep it for himself! Mojo loves to chew away at a smoked bone, rawhide or work away at a Kong for a special treat.
Mojo happily explores the house, sticking his head into the kids’ backpacks, the bathroom garbage for toilet rolls, or in the bedrooms where he’s overjoyed to find a stray sock to parade around proudly as treasure!
Mojo arrived at the rescue with a heavy coat of matted fur that desperately needed a groomer’s attention. Perhaps you saw the before and after photos of him posted on Facebook. He looks amazing now, and will need regular grooming to keep him that way. He does let us brush his head and ears, so as his coat starts to grow, he should start to get used to being brushed on a regular basis.
Mojo has also recently been neutered and received treatment for ear infections and has recovered from both. His new family will need to keep a close watch on his ears and maintain them so they don’t get infected again.
Mojo has been keen to go for walks, even on the cold days. He prefers to get his business done on a walk rather than in our yard. He easily walks ahead on his leash and stops often to sniff and mark his territory. Mojo gets excited to see other animals and has greeted some other dogs on our walks without incident. He would love to chase the rabbits and squirrels so a backyard for him to run around on would be great.
In between walks, we’ve been keeping a close eye on Mojo for house training and it is coming along well, we’ve seen a significant improvement and have very few accidents now. Mojo’s new family will need to continue to be vigilant with outdoor breaks to maintain this progress that has been started.
Mojo is a pretty smart little guy and he learned how to sit for a treat in the first three days with us. He knows how to go to a down sit for a treat as well. Since Mojo loves treats, he is motivated to learn new things when there’s a reward.
Mojo has had a few car rides where he travels in his crate. He’d really like to be closer to his humans and he lets us know, but other than being quite vocal, he hasn’t been sick or had any accidents while in the car. Mojo always gets a treat when he gets in the car, so hopefully in time, he will be less upset about going for a ride. Mojo may also do better if belted into a seat near another passenger instead of riding in a crate.
Mojo does bark at people who come to the door, and initially to those who visit, but after a few moments, he settles down. He also likes to bark at the squirrels when they enter our yard and will sit at the window watching out for them now that he knows they’re out there!
Mojo is a healthy eater and usually eats as soon as the food is in the bowl. He loves a little canned food mixed in with his kibble, but will also dig in without it.
Mojo is content to sleep in his crate and spends time in it during the day too. He now runs to the crate when we say “treat for bed”, because he knows he’s getting a Kong filled with goodies. When we work from home, Mojo is content to sit in his crate during meetings when we can’t keep a constant eye on him, and at other times he relaxes on a comfy chair just to be close to us.
Mojo is living with a family with older children. He’s a very playful guy so he would love to live with some people who would like to play with him and be entertained by him playing with his toys. He would love it if you had a basket full of toys that he could help himself to. It becomes a real game when we try to put them in the basket and he decides they’re coming right back out! Mojo would be great with school age children who would be understanding if Mojo thought their toys were his too. Mojo is the only pet in our home, so he hasn’t experienced cats with us, but has had positive interactions with other dogs.
For a dog who has spent years isolated from people and rarely shown any kindness, this sweetheart is full of love and curiosity and is just waiting to embrace that special person or family who is ready for a loyal dog companion. When you meet Mojo he’ll win you over in no time. His name means “magic charm” and he’ll surely cast a spell on you!
