Meet Midas

Beautiful boy Midas may not have a touch of gold but he certainly has a heart of gold. This approximately 2 year old, 65 pound Golden Retriever mix is a very sweet boy who just wants to be loved.

Completely housebroken, Midas will come lick you or sit by the door to let you know he needs to take care of business. While it may take a few minutes for Midas to calm down when crated, overall he does well in it. Since he is well behaved when left alone, Midas is not usually crated in his foster home. He’s very calm and mellow most of the time.

Midas is a quick eater; his favorites are peanut butter treats and bully sticks, but he’ll eat anything! He’s a beggar and thinks food in your hands is meant for him. (Sometimes his foster puts him in his crate while she eats dinner.) As far as commands are concerned, Midas knows let’s go out and come, and responds really well to his name. He’s working on sit and understands no in some contexts. He doesn’t need to be told to go potty — when he is out, he gets down to business.

While Midas can be timid on the first few walks with a new owner and not want to walk for very long before sitting down, once he’s comfortable Midas is amazing on his leash — he doesn’t pull and is easy to control. His only issue on walks is that he will try to approach everyone that passes and often growls if he gets close to another big dog. In the car he will do everything he can to get in your lap so he definitely needs a buckled harness and possibly a barrier.

Cats, children, and little dogs are fine with Midas. He does tend to show dominance towards larger dogs. Slow introductions are the key to getting along. Even though Midas likes the yard, his focus is always on his person and he has not shown much interest in toys. He doesn’t talk, but does growl/snore in his sleep.

Who wants to help this low-maintenance golden boy learn how to properly snuggle? He can be shy around new people, but after a bit he warms up. He has the most loving eyes that will make your heart melt. Come see Midas in person — his love is pure gold.
