Meet Merida

In June, Merida was surrendered to the New York Animal Care Centers, the New York City Municipal Shelter due to her temporary owner having a house fire. The temporary owner only had her three weeks and we have no info on her original owner.

She was placed on the Emergency Placement list where she almost lost her life. An amazing woman stepped up to foster her therefore saving her life.

These are Merida's aka Rita's Stats:
Approximate age: 2 years
Approximate weight: 65 lbs
Breed (s): Pit Bull
Spayed or neutered?: Spayed
kids? 13 and up would be recommended.
strangers? Good with stangers. I have had 4 people over and she liked them all (males and females).
other dogs? single dog home
On leash? She pulls on the least a bit, working on this
Housetrained? Rita Is housetrained although she has had accidents
Crate trained? She Is fine In the crate
Paper trained? I have not tried paper training

Rita Is a sweet and loving young dog. She would do great with someone who can give her exercise as she Is a great jogging partner. She Is also a quick learner and knows a few words like "sit" and "no." I think the Ideal forever home would be a home with plenty of space and people who are willing to continue to train her. She Is a large dog but she Is sweet and will continue to grow with training and stability In the perfect forever home.

As mentioned, she Is a strong, young dog with energy so she loves running In the yard and jogging at the park. She Is a beautiful dog and has one blue eye and one hazel eye. she enjoys all kinds of fruits, vegetables, rice and pizza.

She needs to be an only dog in the home.

I think Rita can make a really loving family dog. That person Ideally would have the time and space for her as she Is a rather large dog. She Is mellow and affectionate and enjoys eating, and exercise. For Rita to be her best self, she needs more training and needs to learn not to jump up when happy and to share resources like food and water with a permanent house mate.
