What kind of home would be best for me? Sweet Mary can be a bit shy but she warms up quickly when she gives you her heart. She is looking for a canine standard poodle friend in her home (she prefers boys but is not averse to girls) and she is hoping for someone with patience and an appreciation for one of the most gorgeous poodle coats we've ever seen. Mary does not have experience as a grooming demo dog, but she has the body and the hair for it. She would need exposure to the world but she has a sweet, bouncy personality that enjoys the people she knows and trusts. She simply needs someone to enlarge her world circle.

What is my personality like? Mary came to us pregnant. She was scared at first but slowly learned that we could be trusted. By the time the babies were born, she knew that here were friends. She trusted us to feed her so she could feed the kids. She trusted us to watch carefully while she visited the yard for quick business trips and let us handle the babies for weighing. Through her pregnancy and birth and then raising, she found common ground with the other mother dogs here at the nursery and continued her learning to trust people.

Today, pups all weaned and on to their own new homes, Mary is raising the Daisey pups (their mother was adopted) and enjoying moving from milk bar to canine instructor. She is patient and kind to the growing doodle group. I've told her this is her last babysitting gig and that moving forward, she will be someone's baby . I think she is happy to raise the pups but also looking forward to life in a home.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Tentative and timid. She won't trust you on first meet. The 3/3/3 rule will definitely apply to Mary.

Other tips and tidbits: Mary's birthday is 5/7/2022. Mary has an interesting story. She was purchased by a breeder who seldom breeds herself but who own an exceptional stud dog. She found out about Mary and to get her from a bad situation, she bought her. She brought the shy youngster home in the summer of 2023, intending to have her altered but nature and a very competent stud dog intervened and she realized too late that Mary was pregnant.

It's ok to know your abilities and she knew hers. She felt Mary would be better off whelped by someone other than herself. She reached out to Poodle Club of America Rescue Foundation and as the closest PCA-RT partner, we were contacted. Mary came to us. As far as we know, this was Mary's first and only litter.

Mary has not been exposed to cats yet.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
