Meet Marta
With a birthdate of Dec. 4, 2023, these sweet ones' mama weighs about 50 lb. She strayed into the neighbor's yard, pregnant, and was grateful to be rescued!
Marta is the last of her litter and patiently waiting for God to send her forever family. She is comfy in a 42" crate and will sleep all night. She doesn't like to be left alone, so will bark for a little while - crating in the room her people sleep would be helpful. She keeps her kennel dry from bedtime to wake up.
Marta is leash savvy, but will pull to get to exciting things. She is a little timid, so will appreciate a firm "don't worry" rather than the typical soothing noises people make for children. Your attitude will allow her to know you're in charge and establish confidence you won't ask her to enter any situation that is worrisome.
Marta rides well in a car and will tolerate trips to go on explores with her favorite peeps. She doesn't give clear "gotta potty" signals, so keeping her on a regular schedule of potty breaks and walks will be helpful to reinforce her housetraining.
Marta loves water. She stayed temporarily at a foster home with a horse trough and gleefully jumped in every chance she got :) Needless to say, the horse was less than pleased and expected his trough to be cleaned and refilled!
Marta does well with polite dogs after an initial introduction. She tolerates cats, ignoring them for the most part when they are in the same room. She wants to be with her people and will follow them around the yard, unless she's racing around with her doggy friends.
**********
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies.
Not all foster dogs are available for viewing during public events, held most Saturdays at Tractor Supply (360 Blowing Rock Blvd) in Lenoir, NC from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
