Meet Mars Barkley
Here’s my stats:
Possible Breed: Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso
Gender: I’m a boy pup
Colors: Classic black and white
Age: The vet says about 9 years young
Weight: Around 18 pounds
Ideal Home: I would be fine as an only dog, and I can live with other male dogs too. I cannot go to a home with children under 16.
Now for more good stuff!-
Mars is a laid-back boy. Some might even call him a couch potato, but he does get down from the couch and play from time to time! He is more of an independent boy, though he does still like to cuddle too.
Mars gets along with both the boy and older girl pups in his foster home. He especially likes to play with the bigger dog who lives there. He doesn’t really play with toys very often. He does enjoy chewing on hard bones. Mars walks great on a leash and really enjoys going for walks with you. He rides well in the car and he does well hanging out in a crate.
He can be a bit grumpy sometimes when you want him to do something, he doesn’t want to do. He will growl and snap, so an experienced dog owner is best. Because of this he must go into a home with no kids under 16.
Like many other Tzu and Lhasa pups, Mars has dry eye. He gets drops twice a day. We believe he has some limited vision due to this issue.
His foster family says, “Mars prefers men, He even feel asleep on his foster dad’s lap the other day.”
Other:
I am house-trained in my foster home, but I will most likely need to be re-trained in my new home. We all have an adjustment period, so please be patient with me! I am willing to learn and will do my best, I promise!
For more information, email my foster mom at mel65shot@gmail.com. Start the process of adopting me or one of the other pups by filling out the application found at www.shihtzu-rescue.com.
PS. I've had ALL my vetting, and oh boy, it was a lot. Here's what I had done:
Distemper/Parvo shots
Bordetella shots
Spay/Neuter-of course.
A fecal exam so I don't have any bad worms. Treatment if I do.
A heartworm test. Treatment if I am positive for heart worms
BLOODWORK to make sure my liver and kidneys are working well, because you know, we doggies often have issues in the liver and kidneys.
A DENTAL exam AND cleaning if I needed it- yep, all my toofies are checked out.
See, that's a LOT. Ask your vet - that's a LOT.
