Meet Mable

ADOPT ME

Mable
4-7 years old (explanation in bio)
Spayed Female, Vax UTD

Miss Mable is a resilient rescue pup with a heart of gold. Mable was rescued by an extremely generous person when she was possibly euth listed due to being in a rural overcrowded shelter. These pitties can't ever catch a break but with Mable's previous medical state, she was surely going to be euthanized. WE ARE SO THANKFUL for her current foster mom for saving her and then reaching out to us so that we can help Mable find her forever home!

As you may be able to tell from the pictures, Mable is blind, or at least mostly blind! But Mable doesn't need her sight to enjoy life, she is simply a happy soul that appreciates the little things. Cuddling on the couch, rolling in the grass, enjoying a good Bully stick or squeaky toy - these are some of her favorite things.

Dogs: Mable currently lives with another female pitty that she gets along with. Her foster human says that Mable does well with other dogs. She has met several (both on and off leash) and has lived in a home with another dog without any problems. Sometimes she will bark when meeting a new dog out of excitement! Mable has met quite a few different dogs of different types of socialability. Mable mostly ignores other dogs, but sometimes she wants to hump some dogs (we have only seen her want to do this with one dog). She would do well in a home with no dogs or dogs that can understand that Mable is blind and has likely been deprived of toys in her life. She has barked at another dog who had a toy that she wanted As long as her humans can advocate for her and make sure that other dogs are respectful of Mable and her disability, a home with other dogs would be just fine! Mable always looks like she is hard staring at other dogs, so some dogs may not be able to read Mable's body language properly.

Humans: Mable adores humans!! Despite clear signs of neglect and not being able to see well, Mable does not seem to resent humans in any manner Strangers aren't a thing in this girls mind. No human is a stranger to Mable and she will lean and roll over for belly rubs for any human that gives her a second of attention

Kid friendly: We have not see Mable around many kids. It is often recommended for blind dogs to not be housed with kids, but this isn't a hard stop. We would love for Mable to meet any kiddos in the home. She hasn't given us reasons to believe a home with kids is out of the question Being blind can just sometimes create hurdles for dogs/kids. (Kid suprising dog, kid running into dog, kid screaming and scaring the dog, etc). We have seen Mable around an 8 year old and 10 year old girls, which she did great with both of them! (So much so that the kids wanted to adopt her parents said no cmon parents!!!) Mable absolutely adored getting pets from a kiddo at an adoption event!! The only thing that we could see being a potential problem for Mable and kiddos treats and toys. Being blind, Mable cannot always see where your hand is, and she may think a toy or treat is in your hand and give it a chomp. She absolutely means no harm and if this happens, it's an accident. She has taken treats from adults and kiddo's hands in a gentle manner, but this is something to be aware of with small/younger kiddos! She does seem to have a very intuitive nature and she seems to recognize when/where she needs to chomp, but we do think this is an important note!

Cats: Mable has met a very mean and angry cat. She also stayed with this cat while her foster mom was out of town for 10 days. Pros: Mable can't really chase the cat she's blind Mable did not seem overly interested in interacting with the cat, but the cat is unable to read Mable's body language. Mable is also not able to see that the cat was giving her a clear visual sign to back off. Mable would just keep exploring until she accidentally bumps into the cat. This would result in a big ole swat swat swat with a scary hiss! Mable cowers when this happens and becomes very flustered! We think a home with cats would be fine for Mable, but we would of course like to see how your kitty cats react and vice versa.

Potty trained: yes! Her foster says Mable hasn't even had ONE accident since bringing her home. Which even super healthy dogs with full vision have accidents when they are adjusting! Sooo did we mention the fact that her visual impairment doesn't stop her from being amazing?

Crate Trained: Mable is AMAZING in her crate, although her foster mom does leave Mable out and about in a room with a closed door

Toys: Mable. Loves. Toys. SOOOO MUCH. Mable absolutely loves playing and chewing. Mable does seem to be able to distinguish the difference between her toys and normal household items. For example, she doesn't grab a pillow or bed or shoes to play with and chew on. Although, occasionally she gets confused Like when she grabbed a tshirt that was in a box at an adoption event She isn't destructive when left alone in or out of her kennel BUT it is important for this girl to have a chew toy! More importantly a power chewer chew toy. Mable has been able to chew through materials like Kongs. She has thoroughly and successfully enjoyed nylon toys from BullyMake, Benebone, NYLAbone, etc. all other types of toys will have to be given to her under supervision to avoid a blockage! One of Mable's favorite toys is a Wobble giggle it is a big plastic ball that makes noises, she loves it!

Mable's future adopter doesn't need to have experience with blind dogs, but of course that would be a plus. She would be great for any family that can just love her, the rest will come easy. Mable is aged in a 4-7 range because we simply don't know how old she is. She was in pretty rough condition at first, so much so that she appeared and seemed on the older side. But now that she has grown comfortable in her foster home and has received some much needed and AMAZING vet care Mable seems as though she could be much younger than 7. Regardless, she is a middle aged adorable pup that has many good years ahead of her!!! It's so sad to think of how she was thought to be an older dog I mean that tells you how rough she was but we are sooooo excited for this happy and healthier Mable and we are EAGER to find her some forever humans!!!

Although Mable arrived to us in a neglected state, she has not let her past experiences dull her personality one bit. She deserves a warm home with a family who loves and cares for her - something I don't believe she has had in the past.
