Luna B Basset Hound Mentor, OH

Meet Luna, our petite Basset Hound or maybe a Basset/Beagle mix. Luna is one year old and 25 pounds of love – all she wants is to be near her people! She is excellent with other dogs, cats, and children- although she can be very pushy when someone else is receiving attention.
Our happy girl is young and always up for a good time, a car ride, a walk - yet she enjoys laying back on the couch with you…especially if belly rubbing is involved! A hound through and through she can be obnoxious when she really wants something but responds well to gentle correction. She’s very treat motivated- ‘cookie’ is a golden word to this silky eared charmer.
Like most hounds, Luna likes to hear her own voice. It’s a ‘big girl voice’ and she’s not afraid to use it, especially when separated from her humans. She will follow you around the house, whether you want her to or not. Her foster mom expects that when she gets settled into her home, that behavior will improve. She quickly adjusted to the foster home’s schedule and leaves everyone alone when they are working from home.
Luna is mostly house trained but be aware she may leak when she’s excited or scared; therefore, it may take a day or two to acclimate her. She responds well to a consistent bathroom/walk schedule. Luna has her signals to go potty but beware if you aren’t fast enough - holding it is not her forte.
She also knows some basic commands, like ‘sit’ and ‘get out of my kitchen’ but ‘stay’ is a challenge – LOL.
She needs a bit of work to stop pulling on the leash, but otherwise she walks well with two other dogs. With a few treats and a bit of patience, she will be trained easily.
