Look at this sweet, long bodied boy! Lucky is an adorable Chiweenie (a Dachshund / Chihuahua mix). He is 2 years old, and 14 lbs.

Lucky was found in Texas as a stray. He trotted right up to the women who found him, and happily strolled with her to the shelter. (Lucky knows no stranger, as his foster says!). Lucky was put on a stray hold to see if anyone would come to reclaim him, and no one ever did!

Lucky booked his ticket to Colorado from there to find his perfect forever home.

Lucky has aced his temperment testing, and is a very friendly little boy with both dogs and people.

The following is from Lucky's foster mom:

* * *

"Lucky is such a friendly little guy!!! This big-headed boy is so social and loves all people and all other dogs. He truly knows no stranger. He has fit into our home super well and is a snuggly little love bug!

He is probably the only foster who has acclimated and settled into my home SO fast and easily! It took him really no time to settle in, and within 2 days he was already meshed into our home routine (when we go out, where to stand for feeding time, where to sleep, etc.)

I have 6 other dogs, a potbelly pig, a cat, and a man (my husband) in the house and Lucky is great with all of them. He is so-so with the cat... He hasn’t tried to chase her, but he does bark at her (he picked that up from my dog).
He is really really friendly and I don't think his tail ever stops wagging.

I would say that he would love to go to a home with another dog. He LOVES my dogs so much, he plays with them constantly, but what makes me say this is how he cuddles my dogs. He will go find one that’s napping and wrap his body around them to cuddle!

He is potty trained (woo!)! He only had one accident on the first day he came home. Otherwise he has not had any more slip ups and he holds it until we go out and goes right away when we get outside.

He sleeps in bed with us, but he is very well crate trained and stays in a crate when I am not home.

He walks great on leash, he eats his food right next to my dogs, and I truly haven't seen a single flaw in this guy. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and he's seriously just great. "

We'd like to place Lucky in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young guy whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Lucky has been fully vetted, is in great health, up to date on his vaccines, and neutered.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
