Meet Luca!
Breed: Chihuahua Mix
DOB: (01/16/20)

Luca was found after being hit by a car and taken to the Wayne County Animal Shelter. The shelter immediately took him to Berkeley Veterinary Clinic for care. He sustained a skull fracture and spine fracture that left him unable to eat or walk. The kind staff at Berkeley Veterinary Clinic had to syringe feed him until he could eat on his own. We knew this sweet boy needed help and took him into the DITR program.

Luca was still unsteady but eating well. We took him to Quartet Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Cary, NC to have Dr. Gallagher evaluate him. He said everything was healing fine and he would not need surgery. His right front leg is a little wonky, but Dr. Gallagher said that was because of a previous injury obviously before the growth plates closed. He may have arthritis in that area someday.

It's been a couple of months now and he's doing great. Luca was very wobbly and could not go up and down stairs. He can now! Luca has come such a long way and LOVES everyone he meets.

Luca’s only 2 years old and weighs 12 lbs full grown. He is super sweet and playful. He likes to play with SMALLER dogs (currently living with 4 dogs and cats). Luca’s favorite thing is to snuggle on his foster mom’s lap when he is feeling mushy (which is often) and sleep with her at night! Future adopter MUST allow Luca to sleep in their bed!

Luca is crate-trained, house-training is still in the works., but he is doing so much better. All DITR dogs are fully vetted (including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccines) and are kept as INSIDE dogs.

This dog is currently being fostered as part of Diamonds in the Ruff Canine Rescue. An application is required, along with a home visit and small adoption fee. Applicants must be at least 25 years of age.

**FENCED IN YARD REQUIRED**
Fence must be attached to the home (no invisible fencing or outdoor pens)

All of our dogs are fostered in homes and are INDOOR dogs. We believe all dogs are family members and should be treated as valued members of the household.
