Meet Levi
*****Belgian Malinois Adoption requirements*****
The dog you have selected is a Belgian Malinois. This is a breed that has very specific needs for an adoptive home. Because of their need for a high level of exercise, both mentally and physically and their need for ongoing training, only applicants with demonstrated owner/handler experience with this breed will be considered. The vast majority of them are not best suited as family pets, but in homes with experienced handlers knowledgeable of their needs and breed characteristics. We will not place in homes with small children or small dogs/cats.
Levi is a young male Belgian Malinois estimated to be 2-3 years old. He came to Saving Paws from a shelter in CA. Thanks to the popularity of some recent movies, many people have bought Malinois puppies with great intentions and then weren't able to provide the kind of environment needed for a Malinois to thrive. Levi seems to be one of these and is looking for a second chance in a home that will love and understand him for who he is. Levi is an affectionate dog who loves getting petted and hanging out with humans. He has a high play drive and is happy with any kind of ball. Although Levi is socialized as a pet and bonds well with people, it appears that he was hurt by humans in the past and does not respond well to hard corrections. Levi is eager to learn and to work. He would thrive with someone knowledgeable of canine behaviors and experienced with positive reinforcement training. He has great potential to be a really excellent dog for someone with the time and knowledge to bring out the best in him.
Levi has behaved neutrally with other dogs residing at Saving Paws; this boy prefers human companionship over canines.
