Meet LADY

MEET LADY

Look at this sweet face! This is one good natured, lovable girl who would love to be your sidekick! She has a glass-half-full outlook on life.

Lady is a very sweet 7-year-old, spayed female hound / lab mix who was rescued by our partners in the south from an overcrowded kill shelter. Her vet paperwork from the originating shelter states that she is a Plott Hound mix, but she more closely resembles a Red Bone Coonhound. At intake, Lady weighed 63 lbs. She has gained a few pounds since coming to us.

As you may be able to tell by her happy face Lady is a friendly girl who really enjoys attention from her humans!

Although Lady enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs when out and about, she prefers to be the only dog in her home.

Here is what our volunteer photographer had to say about Lady:
" She is very sweet and friendly. Lots of energy. Acts younger than she looks and is very treat motivated."

Please come meet her today! You will fall in love.

>> Dogs: The originating shelter placed Lady in play groups with male and female dogs of similar size and age. Lady did well playing with all. However, Lady prefers to be the only dog in her home environment.

>> Cats: We have no information on how Lady reacts to cats. As a result, a cat free home, or one that can initially **separate** cat from dog to do slow on-leash introductions, is required.

>> Children: Due to lack of known history, we have no information on how Lady gets along with children. Please bring all resident family members to the shelter to meet Lady.

Lady is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She tested negative for Heartworm and is on monthly prevention. Please consider opening your home and heart to Lady!

*** IMPORTANT!***

IMPORTANT As a “southern” dog and due to the high rate of heartworm infection in the warmer climates, it is critical that Lady be kept on monthly heartworm prevention ALL YEAR LONG not just in the summer months. It takes 6 months for heartworm larva to turn into adult worms that then are visible on a heartworm test.

Monthly prevention will kill any larva. Adoptive parents must commit to this prevention schedule as well as heartworm testing every 6 months for the first year and annually after that.

Heartworm prevention costs about $120 a year. Compare that to treating a dog for heartworm (a deadly disease) an expense of thousands of dollars for a treatment that is dangerous and difficult for the dog.
