Meet Kona

Hi, my name is Kona! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Friendly, affectionate, playful, loyal

-Can Live with Kids: Yes, Kona lived successfully with kids in her previous home and should be fine doing so again! Her previous owner said, "too big for babies/toddlers-- we think a home with elementary and older would be the best fit."

-Can Live with Cats: Kona has never lived with cats before and her previous owner said she's showed maybe a little TOO much interest in small animals while out on walks.

-Can Live with Dogs: Kona's previous family recommended she be the only dog in her new home. "She has only been around 2 male dogs of similar size, they did not fight, but she only tolerated them and did not prefer."

-Can do Apartment Living: Could be doable with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, although a home with a yard is much preferred!

-Potty trained: Yes

-Bite History: No

-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No

-Energy Level: Medium

-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Nope!

-Additional Information: Kona was originally adopted from another shelter in WA and lived with her family for about 3 years before being surrendered to WHS due to a new baby in the home and big changes in schedule/lifestyle. Kona's previous family said their favorite thing about her is that she is friendly and wants to be right next to you (that happens to be our favorite thing about her, too-- this girl is a total snugglebug!) Kona is an attentive pup who will likely form a very strong bond with her new person, and will be a loving, loyal companion for many years to come. She's very food motivated and knows "sit" and "down." She has pretty decent leash manners from what we've seen at the shelter (not a big puller) but her previous family did say she sometimes struggles with reactivity toward other dogs while on leash. Other than that, Kona does not have any behavioral concerns and would likely do well in most home environments. She had a fenced yard in her previous home and would love a similar arrangement in her next one but this is not a requirement. Kona is an awesome dog who's potty trained, playful, affectionate, and more than ready to find a forever family of her own!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
