*AGE: 14 months (born February 2023)

*WEIGHT: 55 pounds

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is required. No electronic/Invisible fences will be allowed as we do not think these would set him up for success.

*COAT TYPE: Gorgeous chocolate and silver, wiry moderate-shedding coat that will require occasional brushing and will also require grooming every 12 weeks or so ($100/groom).

*ENERGY LEVEL: Medium. He spends a lot of time laying around the house but does best with 2-3 walks a day.

*DOGS: Yes! Koda loves other dogs and is playful and gentle. He is good with both larger and smaller dogs. He does not resource guard or have any food aggression. He would love to have a playful dog in his new home but this isn't a requirement if his family is around and spends time with him.

*CATS: Unknown. He has not been around cats while in his foster home.

*KIDS: Yes! Koda lived with a children ages 5 & 9 in his prior home and reportedly did well with them.

*CAR: Koda does ok in the car. He whines nervously but does not frantically run around or try to escape the vehicle. He will sit or lay in the back seat. Hearing human voices (like a podcast) seems to calm him down. During a multi-hour drive, after about an hour we put on a podcast and he settled down.

*CRATE: Koda likes his crate. He also likes being around people so ideally, if he is going to crated at night, it would be in someone’s bedroom. If he is going to be crated in the day, it would be in a room where people are (for example, a home office). He doesn't like being isolated from his humans.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Yes!

*LEASH: Koda walks pretty well on the leash. He will cross in front of you but he doesn’t pull strongly or run after things. He occasionally gets afraid of strange objects, sounds or settings while on walks; this behavior has diminished dramatically over his few weeks in foster care. He will refuse to move toward them and, if you try to pull him, he may get overwhelmed and try to wriggle out of his collar or harness. However, if you give him a moment to sit still and regain his composure he will come along.

More about Amazing Koda!

Koda is a gorgeous chocolate male Labradoodle who is 13 months old. He weighs 55 lbs. and was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who loved him very much but a family member was allergic to his coat. He is a very affectionate, gentle and intelligent Doodle.

Initially Koda can be a little skittish around strangers that he meets in public; that behavior has diminished significantly as he has been further socialized while with his foster family over the past few weeks. He has blossomed into a great mixture of social butterfly (among people he has been introduced to) and a steadfast companion who eagerly cuddles up at every opportunity. His new family should be patient with him as he gets accustomed and acclimated to his new family and environment. He is calm and well behaved in dog-friendly public settings.

He has a moderate amount of energy. He would do well in a home with multiple people and/or another dog. His needs lean more on the side of human/dog contact and mental stimulation than vigorous exercise.

Koda is smart and obedient. He does not know many tricks but will sit, shake, lay down and go into his crate when ordered. He is working on other tricks and would probably excel in a family that will work with him daily on his training.

Koda is a Velcro guy like many Doodles, to a fairly manageable extent. He likes to be wherever his family is. He does not like to be separated from the people. He is not so extreme that he wants to sit beside you on the toilet, for example, but he will pace back and forth outside the door.

He has moderate separation anxiety; he much prefers to be with his people. He will bark and whine when you leave home. However, he does not destroy things or try to escape. He would probably do well with more time being alone.

Koda is not a destructive chewer. He likes chew sticks but does not chew on furniture, shoes or that sort of thing. He will occasionally grab a sock or shoe and leave it outside but he doesn’t chew on them.

Koda barks when he is in the backyard and hears the neighbors through the fence. He rarely barks at people he sees through the front windows but it is not incessant.

Koda has a habit of putting his mouth around people’s hands and wrists in when he is cuddling and lightly gnawing. It is gentle, not-painful mouthing and gnawing—not biting. We have been addressing this in foster care and his next family should be sure to continue training him not to do this.

We think Koda will do best in a home that:
- Has a backyard with room to run and play
- With people who will be consistent with his training.
- With a family that will run or walk daily with him.
- In a home where he is allowed to be around his people as much as possible.

Koda is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines, and house trained. He is fecal and heartworm negative and current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives.

ADOPTION FEE: $495

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately donations are down across the board for all rescues.
