Meet Klaus

Dog's Name: Klaus
Adoption Fee: $250
Location: Lenexa, Kansas (Kansas City)
Neutered/Spayed? Yes Neutered.
Age/Birthdate: 3.5 years, Sept 2, 2017
Microchip: Yes
Reason for surrendering:
Family change, daughter’s dog and she is off to college, my job position changed to onsite and gone daily so he is home alone in the backyard every day. Also the past half year he has matured into just wanting to hunt and run.
Dog's History –
Had him since he was 8 weeks old. The past 6 months his hunting instinct is really coming out and we are not able to meet his exercise or stimulation needs.
Where did he come from?
A breeder southwest of Lenexa, Olathe area. They lived in the country.
What is his energy level (low, medium, high)?
Super high.
Typical exercise he receives?
As of recent, 1-2 three mile walks per week. Runs the backyard all day by himself.
Kind of fencing he requires?
Electric underground (does well with that). We also have a wood privacy fence but chain link would work too. If left with out an underground electric fence and no supervision he will dig out and run the neighborhood.
Training? (house, crate, leash, potty, hunting, obedience - commands he knows);
He is amazing on a leash when on walks - uses a prong collar. Doesn’t bark at other dogs, stays by my side. All he does all day is point and hunt in the backyard. Not inside long enough to know that he is really potty trained but for the short periods, he will go to the door and we let him out and he goes potty when told to go potty. He does a great job of listening to commands such as sit, lie down, wait, and before entering and leaving door to the house, he listens to the commands, sit and wait, while I go inside first. Then he knows to come in and sit down first. Rides exceptionally well in a car.
Has he ever shown any aggressions - toys, food, other animals, children, people?
Never, super sweet.
How does he act around dogs? Cats? Kids?
He does great around kids. We have a cat and he has learned that after he goes up to the cat with his wiggly tail and figures out the cat isn’t interested, Klaus walks away.
What is a typical day like for him?
He is let outside about 6:30a and brought inside at night to kennel up around 8:30p. The past 6 months or so we had to put a bark collar on him as well because of possible disruption to the neighbors. I feel so bad that he is contained to the backyard, doesn’t’ get the attention he needs because I am now at an office everyday and not home and that he has to wear a bark collar too.
