Meet Keyes

Hey there, it's me, Keyes, an approximately 17-week-old Retriever mix who currently weighs in at 32 pounds. My sister Sally and I are new to town and are staying with a foster until we find our forever homes.

There are a number of other dogs and a cat here at the foster home and while I don't mind any of them, I like playing with my sister Sally the best.

Some of the things I am learning here include when and where to potty. Foster Mom must like it when I go to the back door and then go outside because she gives me lots of praise. She also told me I am a fast learner, because besides knowing down, off, no, and leave it, I am learning wait. She is also teaching me to fetch and play tug with a toy. I don't mind the leash, but I haven't yet grasped the concept of walking on a leash. We need to be careful on car rides as I sometimes get car sick.

Now all this activity makes a guy hungry and, unlike my sister, I am highly FOOD driven. Mealtime gets me soooo excited that I sometimes even take food from my sister (she doesn't seem to care and I hate to see anything to go to waste). So bring on the treats, I love them all!

Speaking of food, that would be a very good thing to use as encouragement to go into my crate. The crate is okay and I will settle down, but it isn't my favorite place (that honor goes to the yard). Being a puppy, I play hard and nap hard. During the day, I will sleep randomly on the floor or in my dog bed. At night I sleep in my pen. My fosters do not allow dogs on their furniture, but that's okay.

Have I told you enough? Could I hold the "Keyes" to your heart? If so, stop everything, fill out an application and make plans to meet me in person. Hope to see you soon!

Please check our events page at http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along. :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog’s individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
