Meet Jazz

Jazz ACCT-A-161445 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space for incoming dogs, and length of stay. Jazz must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, May 5th at 10 A.M. Should Jazz's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Jazz has a personality a lot like the music genre: upbeat and spunky! This lady was found wandering in the streets, hungry and alone, and brought to ACCT as a stray on 4/8. We estimate she's about 4 years old. She's had great dog meets at the shelter and is so gentle and loving. Volunteers and staff adore her, and we know you will too! Due to Jazz's length of stay, she is timestamped and looking for a place to call her own.

Per Volunteer 4/28/2024 - Jazz is a perfect angel. She seems to be recovering well from her previously mentioned illness and injuries. I had no problems at all with leashing her. She seemed nervous of the other dogs barking at her as we walked through the kennels but immediately perked up once we made it outside. She walked confidently to the play area without pulling. As soon as I sat down she crawled into my lap and stayed there for some time. She is a HUGE cuddlebug and was pretty much attached to my hip the entire time. She had no issue with me touching her face, ears, feet, tail, or even cleaning her eye boogers. She had no sign of a cough, sneezing, wheezing, or ear irritation although she did have some snot and her ears did have noticeable gunk buildup. She ate treats from my hand gently. She didn't take much interest in the toys until I started tossing tennis balls for her. She seems to have a good grasp of fetch and returned the ball every time. I had no issue when it was time to return to her kennel. I am excited to see her fully recovered and finding a family who will spoil her rotten.

Per staff on 4/27: Jazz was so patient with leashing and came out without issue. She walked great on leash and was so affectionate. She lovesss standing up and giving hugs, would just rest her paws on my shoulders and give me kisses, staying loose with mid level wags. She just wanted all the love she could get, and stuck by us the whole time. Hopped right back into kennel

On 4/26 Jazz finished her course of doxycycline on 4/25 but her URI signs remained and was switched over to Azithtomycin. Jazz had crusted mucoid discharge at nares. She remained bright, alert, and responsive.

Per staff on 4/16: Jazz got out for some fresh air today! She is such a beautiful girl, even with all of her skin problems. The prettiest brindle beauty! She was easy to leash in kennel; came right up to the door with soft eyes and allowed over the head leashing. Jazz walks really well on leash! She prefers a longer leash as she likes to be out ahead of you. but she's good about not pulling too hard and slows down when she feels pressure. She only really pulls for new smells. Jazz LOVES to sniff and smell, I think she'd really enjoy sniffing enrichment such as snuffle matts and sniff boxes. The covered yard was being used when we got outside, so we hung out in the shade together for a bit. Jazz is super sweet and wanted to be right next to me receiving love. She sat on my feet and soaked up all the affection. She allowed me to touch her ears without any pain reaction, but her paws seem to be bothering her. When I touched them she would pull them back quickly. I gave her some treats as an apology, and she took them very gently. When the yard opened up she just wanted to sniff around. She forgot about me completely and got so interested in all the sniffs. She wandered around, sniffing and going potty for a few minutes. Jazz wasn't super interested in any of the toys, so I let her enjoy her sniffing until she came back to the gate and stared out, ready to leave. She walked back to kennel nicely and kenneled without any issue. Jazz is a beautiful, sweet little lady that just needs a little medical attention and extra love.

On 4/12 Jazz came down with an upper respiratory infection and was started on Doxycycline.

Per volunteer on 4/12: Jazz is a very sweet, gentle girl! She loved getting outside and enjoying the sunshine. She's a pretty chill dog who enjoys going on strolls and taking in the scenery around her. When we stopped she sat right next to me and soaked up the attention. This sweet girl would make a great addition to any family!

Per volunteer on 4/10/24: Jazz is a sweet, shy little girl. She is not feeling well so currently very low energy. She was shy and kind of sad. Jazz just wanted to eat my treats and get cuddles at first, but did open up after I had her say hi to the welcome center dogs to help her gain some more confidence. She untucked her tail and walked around exploring some. Jazz has a lot going on medically. Her ears are very very infected, she has skin issues, her eyes are crusty and she is underweight. Her ears do hurt and she flinches if you get too close but is not defensive of them at this time.

On 4/9 staff noted: Jazz was lying on her bed when the handler approached. She glanced up with soft eyes but layed on her bed still. When she saw the leash she slowly came to the front and allowed for very easy leashing. Pulls Minimally On Leash. Loose/Allows all handling. Jazz was super sweet and well mannered in the room. She was very gentle and would approach us with soft eyes and little low wags curling up against us for pets. She allowed all over handling and was also very food motivated. She took treats gently when offered and showed knowledge of sit. Very gentle and sweet girl.

On 4/9, Jazz was noted to have mucoid debris and corneal pigmentation in her right eye (OD). Her ears had a bilateral acute on chronic otitis with scaley thickened pinnal flaps and canals, along with yellow debris. Erythematous, thickened areas of alopecia in the periocular region OU, on the muzzle, and paws x 4. Greasy erythematous skin on ventrum. Well developed pendulous mammary w/ hyperplastic nipples. Bilateral acute on chronic otitis externa, superficial pyoderma, and suspected malassezia dermatitis - r/o underlying atopy vs food allergy vs flea allergy vs ectoparasites (skin scrape negative today)

On 4/8 during Jazz initial intake exam she was noted to have Dried blood noted and heavy dirt/wax build up. She had heavy tartar build up and staining on teeth. Hair loss noted on tail, paws, head and face, moderate dander in coat.
