If you’re looking for a loveable, beautiful, playful companion, look no further! Jax is a 3 year old mastiff mix who is ready to check all your boxes when it comes to your perfect pup.

Jax came to us in the Winter of 2022 after a supporter of ours heard that he was living out of a “shed”, with only the necessities of life, but none of the necessities to thrive. Over the past 1.5 years with us, Jax has been learning lots and has proven to be a very smart boy! He will require a forever family that is willing to continue this training while also giving him everything he needs and deserves to be both mentally and physically fulfilled.?

Jax is good with dogs but needs tolerant friends. He doesn’t always understand social cues and can be considered too much when he gets into his rough and tumble play! Jax is looking for a home without cats or small animals due to his rough and tumble lifestyle. Jax has been exposed to kids and has previously lived with older (16 years and up), dog-savvy children and would do well in a home with or without children.

In the car, Jax is a great copilot both in and out of the crate. He will however, bark out the window if someone approaches the car and he is not in the crate. With him being such a big boy, this can be very intimidating and is something that we continue to work on anytime that he is in the car. One thing that Jax doesn’t need much work on is his leash manners. He knows how to heel, sits automatically when his handler stops, gives eye contact to his handler when appropriate and all around just enjoys his walks!

Jax does well in his crate but has major FOMO! He will whine on occasion when he hears or sees his foster siblings having fun without him. Jax also sees his crate as his safe place and does not like it when other dogs approach it, especially when there are treats, toys or snacks involved. However, he can share toys with other dogs when outside his crate. While Jax is okay with sharing his toys with his furry friends, he does guard toys and high value treats from his foster parents. As a resource guarder, he has been learning a solid “out” command. No toys are to ever be taken away from him, rather he is always asked to drop his toy and back away so that we can safely interact and have fun with him and his toys. It is important to note that when Jax first came to us, he believed that biting was appropriate to tell someone that his toy was HIS toy.

“Jax is a great dog with rough edges due to no fault of his own. Jax had someone in his previous life looking out for him and knew that he deserved better. With an incredible team of people, Jax found his way to us and will be an incredible companion with some very funny and goofy puppy moments. It is important to know, Jax did not get the puppyhood that he should have and although he is a year and a half, he does not act like it and sure doesn’t realize it when he jumps on you to say hello. Over the past year and a half with us (yes he has been with us for half of his life) he has been learning a lot and has shown us so much potential! ?

Jax deserves a family with large breed experience who is looking for a hiking, running, adventure (or anything in between!) buddy. This is not something that is required but his future family does need to realize that he is not going to always want to be a couch buddy! He is an active boy who deserves the chance to show the world his sunshine :)”
