Meet Max

Meet Max!

Max is a 1-year-old Terrier mix with a heart full of potential and a scruffy charm to match. He currently weighs 15 lbs, but with a little TLC, his ideal weight will be under 25 lbs. Max’s early life was tough—he lacked proper food, shelter, and the love every puppy deserves. But now, in his foster home, he’s learning what it means to feel safe and cherished.

While Max is still timid and startled by sudden movements, he’s making great progress watching his foster dog siblings, learning how to engage and trust. His sweet, playful side is starting to shine through, and with patience and love, Max is eager to bond, snuggle, and show affection.

As a young dog catching up on missed puppy experiences, Max is still a little mouthy when playing and enjoys getting into typical young dog mischief. He’s energetic and quick on his feet, loving zoomies in the yard and wrestling with his doggy friends. Max thrives in the company of another confident canine sibling who can help him continue building trust and confidence.

Max is potty training using a dog door to go outside on grass and enjoys the freedom of having outdoor access throughout the day. He’s still learning to walk on a leash and will need a secure yard since he’s a flight risk. Max prefers to cuddle up with his people or dog buddies at night rather than being crated. He’s fostered with multiple dogs of different sizes but feels most at ease with pups his own size. He’s also available for adoption alongside another Underdog if you’re looking for a dynamic duo!

Max will thrive with an adopter experienced in nurturing timid dogs, offering patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement as he blossoms. He’s sensitive to loud noises and gets nervous when chased to be picked up, so a calm, gentle approach is essential. Max would do best in a home with dog-savvy older kids who understand how to go slow and respect his space. While he hasn’t been tested with cats, his gentle nature suggests he could adapt with proper introductions.

A successful transition will require a thoughtful after-adoption plan, focusing on Max’s needs for mental and physical stimulation, socialization, and structured training. If you’re ready to open your heart to a sweet, resilient pup who just needs a little extra love, Max could be the perfect addition to your family!
