Meet Jambalaya

Little Jambalaya needs a furever home… notice that we didn’t say that he is ready or seeking a furever home. This is because Jambalaya is initially very shy when meeting new people so he doesn’t believe that joining a new family will be great, but we know that finding a family where he can feel safe and loved forever is exactly what he needs. Jambalaya would do best in a calmer home with no small children. He is around a year old but presents as a younger puppy that didn’t get a lot of exposure to anything. Jambalaya loves to chew on bones and anything else his puppy mind thinks might be tasty. He can be nippy when he gets excited. He will need a family that is willing to be patient with him while he learns manners. He does fine with most other dogs, but can present as a little grump because he doesn’t seem sure of how to meet new friends. He will snuggle and play but doesn’t like sharing his toys. He is curious about cats but his level of curiosity isn’t labeled fun for the cat. He is working on housetraining but seems to do well with potty pads. Once comfortable, he is a Velcro dog and loves to snuggle. He wouldn’t do well in a home with someone who has mobility issues because he does sometimes get under foot. We are hoping that once is feels secure, he will be able to relax and enjoy being a doggie.

Sadly, Jambalaya has some “old dog” medical concern. He sees well but seems to have depth perception issues with his eyes, although we aren’t sure of the cause. This can pose a concern with a lot of stairs. He also has moderate hip dysplasia and requires daily anti-inflammatory and joint support medication. It will be vital to maintain a low weight and monitor his activity. It is sad that a dog this young is already at this level of need and due to his age may require surgery in the future. These are issues that will have to been deeply considered when thinking of bringing this joy into your home. Jambalaya may not be a social butterfly but he is built to be someone BEST BUDDY!
