Meet Jaeger, an almost 4-year-old Mountain Cur mix who is eagerly searching for a loving and understanding forever home. Jaeger's life began as an outside dog, that was surrendered to us with his brother Butterball due to no fault of their own. Their previous family had to move and felt that they wouldn't be happy in their new home. Jaeger has been waiting for a long time in search of his forever family, as he originally came to our shelter in summer of 2020. It's been hard for him here at the shelter, as he's generally pretty distrusting of strangers at first. He's independent by nature, and wasn't socialized very well as a puppy. It does take a little work to win him over, but once you do, he will certainly be your buddy for life! Jaeger's stoic nature may come across as self-reliant, but it should not be mistaken for a lack of loyalty. Once he establishes a connection with his human, he will go above and beyond to show his unwavering devotion. Jaeger will be your steadfast companion through thick and thin, offering you a hard-earned, loving presence every step of the way. In his time with us, Jaeger has graduated the Puppies for Parole program through our partnering correctional center. From his handler we learned Jaeger is very intelligent, easily trained, and highly food motivated. Through his opportunity with P4P, he has been house trained, crate trained, taught basic obedience, and started on home manners! We also learned from his handler that when it comes to favorite pastimes, cuddle sessions take the top spot for Jaeger. He is a true cuddle bug and finds comfort and joy in sharing intimate moments with his loved ones. Providing him with a cozy bed where he can snuggle up with you will undoubtedly be one of his greatest pleasures. So he has certainly come a long way from being someone's forgotten farm dog! Here at the shelter, Jaeger does go out in a playgroup with other dogs, but it should be noted that he is a dominant dog, and takes it upon himself to 'police' his playmates.
