Meet Hunter

An urgent call of 42 hounds needing rescue in Wilson, NC was made and our rescue stepped up to take four of the dogs. To say the conditions that all dogs were in was deplorable would be putting it mildly. After the owner passed away there was no one in the family that could handle all the dogs left behind. Forty-two made it out of there alive with the help of rescue! Many others did not.
Meet, Hunter. thought to be either a July hound or a red and white English Fox Hound. He's around two years old. Hunter was taken to our vet and has undergone treatment, was brought current medically with all vaccines, neutered and micro chipped and given lots of TLC. Now he's ready for a home!
Gentle, fun, loving, happy boy! He's crate trained. Those of us who have owned hounds know of their incredible bond to their person and of their great sense of loyalty. And, once you meet this boy you'll understand the popularity of the Hound:
ABOUT THE BREED
The fox hounds-If given enough exercise, they are typically playful and friendly members of the family who are quite eager to please. They tend to get along with all ages, . They are generally very bright and so, short, positive training sessions are most effective for this breed, particularly if they include varied exercises.
Activity Requirements: These dogs are specifically designed for their endurance and stamina, which means that they need a good deal of exercise each day to remain happy and healthy, both mentally and physically. Although known for hunting, there are several other activities such as scent tracking, swimming, and even rally sports that are also good activities for the fox hound. If hiking is your thing, taking them along broadens the adventure and makes for a great hike with a buddy! They are not well-suited to apartment living and would likely be too vocal and active for small living spaces.
