Meet Hugh
Meet Hugh! He is around 1 year old and 15 lbs. He has had a hard time during his short life and is looking for a special forever home that can help him blossom into a confident dog.
Hugh has a very special story to tell. He came to the rescue from a breeding facility as a very, very scared boy. In the last five months, Hugh has made so much incredible progress, but will need an adopter that understands his personality quirks and is willing to give him time and patience as he continues to learn how to do life.
While adorable, and playful with this foster mom, Hugh is far from your typical dog. Prior to coming to the rescue, life wasn’t super kind to Hugh and as a result he’s been working to overcome that trauma. While he is still fearful of strangers, Hugh’s personality has blossomed with his foster mom. He had lived previously in a breeding facility, seemingly never handled by humans (or handled very minimally) and never having lived in a home environment. Hugh is still very young, but his initial reaction to human touch was jarring to everyone in the rescue. Due to the extreme trauma of “breeder life”, he may carry those quirks with him his entire life; therefore, we are looking for a very specific forever home for Hugh.
Upon entering a new home, Hugh will need a space to call his own. He doesn’t use a kennel in his foster home, and honestly doesn’t care for the confinement anymore – but can you blame him?! Hugh will need a family fully committed to continuing his emotional rehabilitation and cannot go to a home with children.
Hugh lives with other dogs in his foster home, but really doesn’t interact with them, and becomes overwhelmed by the higher energy dogs. For this reason, Hugh’s ideal home does not need a four-legged companion, but could have a very low-key companion. Hugh’s adopter will need to be committed to home grooming, as well as not boarding him, as this will set him back tremendously. Hugh is not potty trained, but does well to do his business outside. He is not leash trained and should be worked with in a harness, not a slip lead or collar/leash combo.
While his specific needs and desirable home characteristics are plentiful, we know his perfect home is out there and we are determined to make sure this boy only knows a spoiled life for the entirety of his life!
If you think you can give Hugh what he needs to continue his journey, you can send inquiries to our director of adoptions at muttmisfitsadoptions@gmail.com or apply to meet / adopt at www.muttmisfits.org/adoption-application
He is neutered, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, heart-worm negative, and micro-chipped.
