Hope is a senior Black and Tan female weighing just over 65 lbs. She entered our organization with the simple hope that she would survive her recent past of extreme hardship. Found on the streets with so little going right, she is successfully restored into a solid companion with just about all that is right.

This gal delights in meeting all humans and will gracefully accept any affection offered. She may even lure you into offering her belly rubs while you chat about the day. In the home, she finds comfort on her dog bed where she lays quietly near her human. On occasion when she is aroused or confused, she vocalizes with a strand of barks. This will quickly extinguish as she settles back into her known routine. In fact, she does well alone for long hours while her foster mom is at work without any disruption in the home. And there's no doubt that she will capture your heart with her grateful soul when you return!

Hope enjoys chasing toys where she occasionally engages in a dance of prance and will retrieve a ball, she says, better than a Lab! Daily walks are an enjoyable highlight where she is quickly learning to ignore other canines along the way. Hope also enjoys tagging along on car rides where she will rest patiently for her person to return. Given her age, she will benefit from assistance or use of a ramp with tall vehicles.

When encountering other dogs, Hope has no hesitation to introduce herself with her street strut charm. She can be rather pushy and offer an enticing "grunt" as her invitation to play. Her style is rough, so her game of choice would be, say, the Senior's Competition for Roller Derby. Some dogs may find this intrusive and protest. Thus, supervision and corrections are necessary as Hope learns polite manners and boundaries.

Hope sleeps quietly in a crate throughout the night. She is housebroken and accustomed to using a dog door. Due to arthritis of her hips, she will require daily anti-inflammatory and pain medications. This gal is a wonder to us all. Hope is a proven example of a grateful matriarch who asks for very little and gives so much in return.

Cats and small critters unknown.

Understanding Dog Levels

Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our home page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels. (https://www.gcgsr.org/dogs.html#levels)

Additional Adoption Information

For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (https://www.gcgsr.org/adopt_info.html) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state.

Puppy Requirements

We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy (https://www.gcgsr.org/puppies.html) email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information.
